Default Little digital video camera...

Been thinking about asking for this real hard as an anniversary gift...

GoPro Digital Hero 3.

All the video I've seen is pretty decent quality for such a cheap camera and supposedly with a 2 gb memory card you can yank down 54 minutes of that quality video. Two of the motorsport videos are shoddy audio, but I think that's due to being in a completely open cockpit car.

For the price of 1 good video camera you can get 3 of these. I'm really close to actually just buying it for myself and asking for a second one for a gift...

this is similar to the Aiptek 640*480 30fps cam my buddy has been running. The videos look very similar and the GoPro looks way more car friendly at the same price. Nice find.

It pays to cruise teh Subaru boards. Like I said though, some of the audio is completely buggered. However, the fact that this thing straps so strongly with some mysteriously heavy velcro onto a track biased car like an Exige in the grille appearantly and still sound great leads me to believe the open cockpit video is from a faulty camera.

This was just released and looks interesting...
$169 for a HD camcorder

Compression doesn't look too bad either;

That's a good price, but I'd like to see some high speed camera work first. For the price that GoPro is awesome even if it isn't HD.

If the vid in that new aiptek is anywhere near as good as the more expensive model it's based on, then it's VERY good. That's a phenomenal price for 720p @ 30fps IMO.

Sorry to bump an ancient thread, but I just got my GoPro and next month I'll be ordering my Motorsport mount. For $80 they have a couple of mounting solutions so I won't have to strap this down onto my roll bar and have questionable angle. I got two 2gb cards from Newegg for $30. So in the coming year, I'll be posting videos of fun runs at whatever size the camera records at instead of postage stamp size. As soon as I get my intercooler, torsen, clutch, and ECU installed.

edit: and I just e-mailed GoPro about temperature tolerances on the camera. Maybe get some footage of training fires and real fire if it ever happens on my watch... which is highly unlikely, everything happens when I'm off work. :(
