i fucked up today and let someone else work on my car
I let a guy at my dad's shop do the timing belt and brakes.
I know the brakes are fucked, and it has to be the rear rotors. I told the guy about the screw adjustment in the rear. He either pressed the pistons in without backing out the screw, or forgot to reset the screw. I basically had to time the car myself, and he overtensioned the bel. I have to drive 3 hours tomorrow for work. Too bad my shitty vw is dead, or I'd drive it instead. |
sucks man. I refuse to pay shop prices, so if a job gets fucked up, its my fault. I didnt know about any screw adjustment, when ive had the calipers off i just use a vice to push the piston back. Well, good luck getting to work tomorrow, hopefully you make it there safely.

yeah, I didn't pay for any of this since it was dad's shop...but jesus fuck it wasn't worth the risk, and I knew it the whole time.
|
yeah, im lucky, if i ever need work done and dont wanna do it, i can just take it to mikes place... pretty sure it will get done right there
|
Guess I'm lucky, I never need my car worked on. :gay:
|
so what's wrong with the brakes? doesn't stop good?
|
I'm forever grateful to my old boss for letting me do my T-belt/WP on company time using their resources :)
|
If the screws not ajusted right you should feel that in the parking brake.

I have to push the pedal down a shitload before the car brakes. I'm going to fuck with it tomorrow. The park brake feels normal now though, after a few uses.

Good luck with it. |
why didnt you just do it yourself? Cant complain about this dude fucking it up since you know you could have done the brakes in 30 minutes.

You'd think that when you send your car into a shop of a family member or family friends, it'd get done right.
But no... Our neighbor and long time family friend owns a place for brakes and oil and tune ups etc., we must've sent our cars back a good 3 times til they got done right. If you want something done right you gotta do it yourself, and sometimes that's a pain in the ass. I feel your pain. |

It turns out that it was air in the lines. However, there was like a 2" long bubble of air (in the clear bleeder tube) on a couple corners. It also didn't help that the guy mixed the 15 year old brake fluid with the $15 motul. So I bought another, and everything worked out with the brakes and timing belt. It sucks ass. Thanks for the help everyone.
