I hate people

Found out last night that one of my "friends" and his dad went behind the backs of me and two other guys, apparently offering the owner of the shop that we rent, more money for the space that we have had for the past 3 years. That leaves us with less than 60 days to find a new location, or find somwhere to put 4 cars that currently don't run, and at least 5 full U-hauls worth of equipment and parts.

This is the part that gets me. They are only doing it so that they can expand their Miata salvage parts buisness that funds their racing. It isn't even their day jobs, its not like its putting food on their tables. Not going to drop names since I know some people on here do buisness with them and I'm not that kind of guy. Best part of it all is neither of them had the balls to tell us, they had the owner give us the notice and try to cover up why we were getting kicked out.

Just needed to vent alittle, so goddamn frustrated. I really don't understand people sometimes. I simply cannot comprehend putting three friends out on the street so you can make more money for your toys.

you should punch said friend in the face. sorry to hear though

Sorry to hear that, I know how hard it can be when someone close to you turns out to be a total douche. I mean a total douche.
Let this be motivation for you to become bigger and better in your next shop.

That blows, wish I could help.

The_Pipefather 03-03-2009 01:05 AM

sucks man.......are these the same people from racine WI that were selling parts for a long, long time on craigslist?

ApexOnYou 03-03-2009 01:48 AM

Indeed.

We are looking at a building for rent tomorrow, it will end up costing quite a bit more between the three of us and needs work, but at this point we will take what we can get. Just absolutely horrible timing.

I don't know about you, but Racine is only a two hour trip away for me. Maybe we could offer some "suggestions" to the douchebags as to where they can locate their parts.

I hate when people you think are good friends decide to ruin it. I've cut off contact with two people in the last year because of stunts they pulled.

Braineack 03-03-2009 01:19 PM

do you not have a lease?

...maybe if I wasn't 5'10" and 140 lbs :giggle:

I know what you are going through. My father used to own an auto parts store, and he rented the building he was in. The land lord got a better offer, because our lot was a corner lot. Told my father he had 60 days to vacate. Dad found another building twice the size, and it took 10 people 2 weeks to move all the inventory, customer's cars, machine shop, engine shop, etc. One has no idea how hard it is to just up and move when not planned.

We did get some happiness though. Two months after the new tenant rented dad's old place they closed, and the building sat for rent for at least 5 years :D

In the end we benefited from the forced move. This is a good opportunity for you to make the best of shitty situation. :D

+1

Invest now, mechanics will do well in this economy.

My uncle bought his own shop a few years back, after years of debating the risk. He is busier than hell right now. More folks will pay to keep their cars on the road than financing the latest cheap crap from Detroit.

Sorry to hear about the situation...but I hope it turns out well (and hopefully better).

I'm just not associating with him anymore and remaining civil. As low as they stooped, I will still be the better man and walk away without doing something stupid (tempting, yes.).

We did not have a lease, we were monthly. It made sense for us back when we moved in there, although now I will be doing yearly leases for sure..

I wouldn't be all that bummed if this was happening at a different time, its just really hitting my bank hard. In 6 months I know we will be better off, the shop we are looking at currently is over 2x the size of the current place, and has no other tenants in the building. Best of all, there aren't houses right next door which would be an awesome change.

I wish I was a bit older and wiser, I would be all about starting a business right now. The only performance shop around here went under last year because the star tech got a better offer and works at King Motorsports now (or so I am told).
