I just can't wrap my head around this stance stuff.
One of my co workers with an s2000 w/ rolled fenders, eBay fake Volks and some ebay springs left this page open on my computer which I found this morning.
StanceNation Shop I found the last sticker especially intriguing. |
Welcome to the end of the world.
|
Do you suck at driving? Welcome to stance.
|
Yeah, it's fucking stupid. Don't get me wrong, filling the fenders is one thing. Like Vlads car in his sig, that looks tits. It is subtle, yet it doesn't sit like a stock Miata monster truck and still has function. There is no stretched tires, camber looks good still, and no "dailydrivenhellaflushmadtytejdmstancenationsofres h" stickers slapped all over it.
I went to a "Canibeat" meet a few weeks ago in Fremont. I cannot take back the things I saw there. It is funny to me, there were a few nice cars, kept very clean, a lot of attention to detail, but nobody gave two shits about those ones. It was all about the sticker slapped hella jdm civic with yellow fogs and a rusted hood that was na with a piece of exhaust sticking 4 feet past the rear bumper and pointing towards the sky. There was a R33 Skyline there though... and that, that got my dick hard. Just sayin'. |
My track car tucks rubber all the way around, lol.
|
that's not the only thing you tuck.

For whatever reason this sticker rips my heart out and makes me want to punch someone in the face.

Dann they are a good car, it is just a shame they are ridiculously cheap and common so they attract idiots just wanting a cheap car to do skids/drift in. It gives them all a bad name.
|
The worst part about this trend is the scraping.
https://www.miataturbo.net/insert-bs...-haterz-60784/ My car is being built as a pure antithesis to this trend. I want my car to be so fucking fast that I can get away from these idiots. |
It certainly is an interesting art...well at one point it was an art now its just a conforming cultural movement. Not for me, but I'm glad it's around, just to see a different perspective.
|
The only way I understand this is if they have bags. It still gives the stance that they want at the car show, and they can maintain the "function", for the most part, if they go about it in a smart manner (That's a long shot). You can keep a stock ride height while driving and the car still does most everything it is designed to do on the road. This being said, I laugh my ass off when some dude has coil-overs slammed, huge heavy rims with a wide offset, stretched tires, and the stickers... WTF. They either don't care or aren't smart enough to know what they are doing. camber and their steering axis inclination angles are ruined, which means their already stretched tires are taking a beating on the inside tread. They can kiss their Spindles, bearings, lugs and wheel studs goodbye thanks To the offset of their rims. Not to mention no suspension travel, accompanied by low profile tires.. It can't turn anymore, ride quality sucks, It scrapes everything, poor fuel economy, it eats tires, It looks ridiculous and they spend tons of money to make it worse than stock. Ya that car is as functional as it gets ( I know the sticker says "form over function", I have met my fair share of people that argue it is still, if not more, functional compared to stock)... It kills me that I am in this generation of people. It makes me seem like I have no idea what is going on, just because these people are in my age group... So frustrating.
|
form > function is an opinion. Pretty stupid.
but function IS form. Always has been, always will be. Form can ONLY be function when function IS form. Silly trendsters. |

That site just screams, "I AM A TOOL!" The sad part is that this peacocking bullshit actually gives these people the attention they want.

They consider themselves as such, and believe they are "different" and "unique" and "artists" and "you wouldn't understand" but yet, they are all the same. Wouldn't they just be sheep of a different farm? |
I'm all for Stance:Nation. Just like I'm all for for Tapout. It let's you see douchebags coming from a much further distance.

farther.

further is figurative. If you continue to grammatically fail any further, i will give you an infraction. |

There are certain stance cars I don't mind looking at, but the other 98% just make me ask why? The other thing u don't get are "drift" cars, when I have my Miatas at work I always get idiots asking if I drift it or telling me I should. They usually ask if the diff is welded as well, to which I respond with yes I want to ruin a 500-700 dollar diff.

I wish we had more tracks over here.. We have one and its not great.. Drifting is fairly common over here, as is rallying and drinking. and just for the record i dont catch anything really and my car is pretty low.. not shlammed like the VAG heads.. the occasional speedbump but they have to be fairly huge... and we have a rake of potholes
|
I don't care what any douche does to their car as long as they stay the fuck out of my way.
And don't look me in the eye. Don't you dare look me in the eye. I'll never be Fae..... |

Yes, the best answer to anything is this:
Setting - Cars and Coffee Stance Guy: "I think I knew that you’d come here some day and I think I wanted to be here when you came. I’ve kept inventing excuses for myself to hang about this place." "You shouldn’t mind speaking to me. You see, I understand your work. What I do about it is another matter." You: "You are free to do what you wish about it." Stance Guy: "Then you won’t mind talking to me." You: "About what?" he points to his stance car and asks: Stance Guy: "What does it look like to you? Like a senseless mess? Like a chance collection of driftwood? Like an imbecile chaos? Do you see no method? You who know the language of structure and the meaning of form. Do you see no purpose here?" You: "I see none in discussing it." Stance Guy: "Mr. Car Guy, we’re alone here. Why don’t you tell me what you think of me? In any words you wish. No one will hear us." You: "But I don’t think of you." Stance Guy's face had an expression of attentiveness, of listening quietly to something as simple as fate. He remained silent, and Mr. Car Guy asked: "What did you want to say to me?" Stance Guy looked at him, and then at the bare trees around them, at the river far below, at the great rise of the sky beyond the river. "Nothing," said Mr. Car Guy. He walked away, his steps creaking on the gravel in the silence, sharp and even, like the cracks of an engine’s pistons. Mr. Car Guy stood alone in the empty driveway, looking at the car. |
wat did I just read

The Fountainhead; and one of the more important points of the story at that. If I was an English teacher, I'd have my students analyize the encounter to fully understand and appreciate why Howard Roarak was a complete bad ass.
And I'd hope that my students, being taught by God, would give me responses such as: Consider this though: Roark did care what Cameron thought about architecture, else he would've never sought him out. He also cared what Dominique thought of him, in the book he says, "I wouldn't care for you if you didn't want to destroy me." It's not that Roark is completly indifferent to everyone's opinion, only he's selective about which opinions are worth considering. Also, this is Romantic literature: it's about what man can and ought to be, not what he is on average. |

The scrape thing... I occasionally scrape speed bumps or rapid changes of incline, like coming out of an underground parking deck from the ramp to the flat road. This makes me sit so low in my seat that no one can tell anyone is driving. "Please, no one hear this scrape, you might mistake me for someone who actually wants his car this low." I've been intending to make some spacers to go on the shock mounts to raise it back up a hair, until I get proper suspension. The "frame rail" braces don't help with clearance either. I actually tinged my RB exhaust tip on something the other day and I nearly lost my shit. It was flawless up until then. "Ting!" NOOOO!!!
