Sold the blue car. Not very happy. Drunk on Southern Comfort. Nothing else to say...

sucks you parted with your Miata man i hope it was for a great price or awesome person.

rmcelwee 09-01-2009 05:17 AM

Nope, I gave it away for $4500. Too many upgrades to list (link ecu, wbo2, konis, chrome everywhere). The car looked and drove like it was 3 years old instead of 18. I've got 2-3 years before I start working on my next Miata project (LS-X) and knew it was just going to sit in the garage and not be driven. I'm pretty sure I will never find another M1 as nice as that one. Sometimes you just do stupid shit and this is one of those times...

y8s 09-01-2009 11:18 AM

I know that feeling. I should have shipped my e30 out east with me.

gospeed81 09-01-2009 11:26 AM

Sorry to hear...

I have no consolation other than what you've already got.

At least you've provided us good build pages for Blue Flash and Red Beast...you may have parted with two great cars...but you've inspired many others.

I never really thought much of "show cars," but thought the blue one was neat. This part here made me realize what made it special for you:

That's no small task.

rmcelwee 09-01-2009 07:42 PM

The car really was perfect in every way. The bitch about it is that I cannot think of another thing that I have ever purchased that brought so much joy to my life. I guess another really nice M1 could replace it but it was very special to me.

So, now I have 2.5 years (45th birthday) to figure out what the next project/car will be. Some ideas:
LS-1 Miata
Locost / Seven
mid '80s red 911 with a whale tail
Ferrari Daytona Spyder (Miami Vice)
FF5 Cobra
???

naarleven 09-01-2009 07:55 PM

IMO i'd do a 930 turbo :)

dpexp 09-01-2009 08:04 PM

I vote LS-1 Geo metro convertible.

1971 to 1974 pinto with LS 1 or 2. If you can find one not rusted. :giggle: ( my dad has a pinto farm, used to race BS in scca with a 71 in the 70's)

Factory Five GTM

rharris19 09-01-2009 10:11 PM

I think you would really appreciate the seven after all the lightening you did to the red beast.

It would be a great car that I would only drive 5 times a year (like Beast). The LS-1 Miata would be slower and feel like crap in comparison but I would get to drive it every day.

Yes, FF GTM would be nice. I forgot to put that on the list but it should be there.

I was thinking this or a Factory Five product.

Since you tend to go over EVERY nut and bolt of a car anyhow...you might as well start with a kit. I could see you seriously enjoying that since you often have a little freedom on how to do things along the way.

Porsche 911 with a twist!VIDEO LINK ON YOU-TUBE!! YouTube - V8 Powered Porsche 911

Corvette Powered 911 – Beauty & the Beast!

Docile in town but a precision track tool for the open road. One-off bare metal four-year obsession. No bolt left unturned – 243 hours in custom bodywork alone. Show, street, or track ready. SCCA cage, race seats & harnesses, fully adjustable racing suspension & Porsche “Big Red” brake kit. Custom billet & magnesium cased 5-speed with Kevlar clutch. Faster, lighter & better handling than a 930 Turbo. New tires, 280 watt CD and paging alarm. Full photo and paper documentation of entire build. Draws a crowd any where. 2,500 miles.

For the technical description:

1976 non-sunroof chassis straight and true. California sourced. Fiberglass European 993 Twin-turbo S body kit. Car taken down to bare metal by hand. No prior accidents or any rust found. Interior stripped to bare metal with the same results. Primered, sanded, primered, sanded and then the color was shot and topped with clear. All door, trunk, hood, glass, drivetrain removed during painting. 243 hours. Picture proof during whole process.

Engine: (I need to consult my mechanic, but from what I recall - I'm not an expert here) 350 V8 with forged crankshaft, connecting rods and aftermarket pistons. Balanced and blueprinted. Painted to match the car. Dressed up and intake and full exhaust to the tips is Jet-Hot coated in their "chrome" like finish. No emissions (exempt), MSD w/ rev limiter, variable speed cooling fan - runs 180 degrees.

Transmission: Solid billet differential cover on a magnesium cased 915 tranny with the 8:31 R&P. Porsche 930 diff bearing. Redline fluid. Wevo short shift kit, all new bushings, custom leather boot topped off with a solid chrome Porsche logo knob.

Brakes: Boxer Motorsports complete set-up with red powder coated calipers. I am most impressed with these! Hawk + pads, "Porsche" in white on calipers. Rebuilt master cylinder and SS lines, racing fluid. Perfectly balanced with perfect feel.

Electrical: Complete rewire with modern ATC fuse block correctly wired and fused as Porsche should have done it in the first place. Flaming River cut off, push button start and fighter plane ignition.

Interior: Custom lightweight aircraft carpeting and leather door panel with "Porsche" embossed on panels. RS style door pulls. 4-point SCCA approved cage and harnesses. CD player with front input, 280 watt amp under passenger seat. White faced gauges and silver trim rings. All gauges functional and even a working clock! Adjustable shift light. Deep tint.

Suspension: Lowered 20% below European ride height. Bump steer kit, hollow core rear torsion bars, fully adjustable spring plates, front tower brace, all new ball joints and all other suspension pieces, poly-graphite racing bushings. Aligned by Porsche dealer to my specs (6 hrs - I was with the car the whole time). Handles amazing with instant
feedback. Very easy to sling the tail around under power and control it.

Tires: All new rubber less than 2,000 miles ago.

Alarm: FM paging full function remote with vehicle display.

This car was my labor of love and a hobby that kept me out of trouble. Less than 2,500 miles on total restoration and odometer. I know my listing only grazed the surface as every nut and bolt on that car has been tweaked by myself or professionals. I have a large file with every receipt and pictures that document the entire process and body work.
