I think I cracked some ribs...

I wish I could get away with calling it a car accident, but...

I went to one of those indoor kart racing tracks with a bunch of guys from Isreal that I work with. These are the Rotax karts that will do about 40mph in a straight line, but the track is pollished concrete and very tight.

I was trying to lap one of the slow guys and he cut in and spun me out... the guy behind me t-boned me at a solid 30mph. It hit so hard that it bent my omnia cell phone and knocked the wind out of me.

A day later, and every breath hurts. What a totally gay way to hurt yourself.

How bad of a hurt? If it was cracked ribs you would be nearly in tears. May just have caused some damage that will heal in its own in a week or two, or it may be more serious. Sorry to hear of your luck. You sound like me. I don't get hurt from serious things like normal people, its always the little things you wouldn't expect.

Your not the first person to break/crack ribs on a indoor cart track. Know of a couple folks with the same deal. Try a big 'ol ace bandage.

Don't sneeze or cough. I remember broken ribs, not fun.

That sucks! Get the chest strap from walmart.

I had the same thing happen a the indoor carting place in OKC. A guy I passed decided to ram me from behind hard enough to shift the frame on my cart so it wouldn't track straight. I really wanted to kick his ass, but work doesn't care too much for a criminal assault record.

I cracked a rib when I hit a tree on my ATV and it hurt for months. I just kept it tightly wrapped with a couple ace bandages and it healed well.

At the Houston indoor place, there is this little asshole that works there that thinks he is the shit. I passed him, he got pissed, and rammed me sideways. Next round I got behind him and at the hairpin I stayed on his bumper and kept it floored when he was braking and pushed him straight into the wall. I turned at the last second and kept going. I was immdiately kicked out after he whined to the boss, but it was worth it.

Is it worth bothering with Xrays, or just go easy until it stops hurting?

It's uncomfortable when I breath, but it hurts like a bastard if I move the wrong way. I supposed it could be muscle or connective tissue that I tweaked.

I am a huge fan of the karts, despite the occasional impact.

X-rays won't help. Broken or bruised, you just have to live with being really sore for a few weeks. Doc wouldn't do anything but wrap you with an ace bandage and tell you to take it easy. Save your money.

Man I bruised ribs sliding into a wall coming out of a fast corner at an indoor track. My rib cage just slammed into the bolster of the seat.

Last thursday my GF got hit in a kart and slammed her ankle against a steering column support and had to be helped off the track. She couldn't push the pedal down anymore :(

So that's why you're getting soft.

Not worth it. It's not like an arm that you can/should immobilize, all you can do is try to reduce the pain (try not to: cough, sneeze, lift arms, attempt any unusual sexual positions, etc.) and/or drug yourself (I advise self-medication with bourbon first and heroin if that fails) and deal with it. I've broken plenty of ribs, and it always sucks, but there's just not much you can do.

Good excuse to drink/drug yourself into a mindless stupor, though.
