Default TiAL BOV

Just wondering if it is worth a hill of poop or not. I was able to get my hands on one for a ridiculously good deal along with a genuine Garrett T25 rebuild kit. Should I flea bay the bov and get something else? I am still wondering if I should rebuild my T25 that I have coming.

I run a knockoff tial. It works fair, but not great. I need to do more research on the design of BOV's, but this one the design is not great. I had to take it apart and adjust the spring for it to open when I shift and I still get a spec of surge and the damn thing leaks at idle too. I've heard the tials work great on high boost setups though.

I like mine. What spring does it have in it?

I am not sure what spring it has in it, I have to open it up when it arrives tomorrow. I got it for free so I guess I can't really complain. But if it is not going to work properly then I well sell it and get something different.

I gave up on mine. It either leaked all the time making tuning a nightmare, or caused compressor surge to the point of worry. I tried three springs, shims, and larger vacuum fittings.

I swapped out my eBay HKS SSQV for pschmidt's old Tial and now I'm having some issues with it. Upon searching for an answer to why its acting up I found this thread, amongst others.

Some suggest to lube the piston, and PatsMX5 did a writeup about grinding the spring. I also got a laugh out of the pictures on how to open it. I just used force on it against the ground as I loosened the screws.

So before it was leaking at idle and I figured that maybe installing the other spring he sent with it would fix it, and it did. But now I have slight compressor surge with it right before it vents. Its doesn't seem like anything that would be dangerous, but then again I don't know how much compressor surge is too much, if any.

Can anyone advise me on what I should do. I'm going to the dyno tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning and I want to make sure this isn't going to be an issue. Should I put in the weaker spring and shim it? Or keep in the heavier spring and deal with a bit of compressor surge?

Also its making a high pitched squeal now as its closing. It vents fine, then as the piston is sliding back in it makes a quick "squeeeekkk". Should I lube up the piston? I saw it had some white grease inside when I took it apart, but may be I should add some more.

I had a knock off greddy type rs and never had any problems with it. I later got a genuine type s from a buddy and love it. Come to think of it I cant remember of ever hearing anything bad about the real ones.

I like Tial but have seen a few people get frustrated with spring issues sometimes all while seeing alot of people run them with no problems at all.

We have found that the Tial BOV needs a smaller psi spring that what you actually want to run - for a system that still uses the MAF.

Is this a Tial Q or something else? There are a few reason why it won't function properly. I went from an 11psi spring due to the flutter noise to a 9psi spring, which still fluttered. Then I put in a large 1/4" carburator fuel hose and it stopped fluttering. Now I have the 11psi spring back inside and the flutter noise is minimal and it is closed at idle.

I bought the Q because my Bosch valve leaked at around 15psi.

yup I have a HKS SSQV BoV, couldn't be happier with it.

It seem like my car will be going full circle here shortly. Installed turbo with Bipes and RRFPR. Upgraded to Megasquirt then CoPs. Now going back to Bipes and RRFPR because MS won't operate right in my car.

Keep an eye open in the FS thread. When I get the money to buy headers and intake set I am ditching the turbo.
