Did my century today. Fairly well organized. Ate and drank the whole day and I feel much better than expected. I'm sure I will feel like death tomorrow morning, though.

The worst part wasn't the climb itself - I've done climbs that were both longer and steeper than that one. The road quality was horrific. Bad to the point where I wouldn't want to drive a race car over it at more than 10mph. The descent was a little scary - all my weight on the pedals, hands hovering around the drops, just letting the bike rattle and clatter down the hill.
The 800ft kicker at mile 80 was not a lot of fun, but not as bad as expected. The group that organized it did a fantastic job with the rest stops, so there was plenty of good, real food to eat along the way. PB&J, bananas, nuts, bagels, water/gatorade/energy drink, and more. One of the rest stops was at the Calfee factory, which was pretty sweet.
How are you supposed to cultivate tan lines without a jersey?

Riding road bikes over bumps sucks- that sounds miserable.

yeah, the real food thing is huge. a few years ago I did a MS 150 (first time ever on a road bike) which is a similarly supported ride; two 75 mile days back-to-back. You just eat all day and it's not that bad.

Hopefully I'll do a proper century ride this year. I'm getting closer, but don't want to until I can be sure I'll do it in less than 5 hours.

Would you do this sub 5 hour century solo? that is a long time to be pedaling at 20mph...

Chris King rears really loud. Look at DTSwiss 240's. Tree Fort usually has good prices. CX-Ray's are excellent. I'm not familiar with the Flo30, but you must have been pleased with them.

Most everyone I've spoken to thinks the Flos are **** and to buy something lighter, but I am keen to realize that their departure from pure lightness in favor of reduced drag and increased width as a selling point. The only onther option in a Panceti 23 which is 1.5mm skinnier from bead to bead and basically a copy of the Zipp 101. The Flo 30 also has a rim shape that's nearly idential to the Zipp 202, made in aluminium, slightly less deep.
Tell me if I'm wrong or wasting my time here. If I don't go back to the Flo hoop, I'm just keeping what I have because these wheels are "fine" and better than most aluminum wheels.
Also, R45 hubs can't be any lounder than shifting with SRAM. Zing.

DT Swiss is a poverty design, the R45 appears to be better in every way, super-duper over-engineered. The DT Swiss design looks good but I think the R45 is slightly better in every way, it's the same price if not cheaper, and it's fabricator jewelry. It can't be any louder than my Zipp hub.

The width of the rim may indeed be what you are feeling as different between the 101's and the old Flo 30's.
I cannot add more as I'm not familiar with the Flo.
I would say, that, if you are still in Tx, I would want Aero more than light. Flat and windy there.

I'm kind of thinking about scratching the wheels and just putting that money toward a CAADx with 105. Thoughts? I know they are super hard to get, so I need to order right when the 2015 model line-up drops.
