Any thoughts on me running an i19 rim and Clement MXP with a Stan's tubeless kit? Some say it will work, some don't.

I have heard that gorilla tape will make almost any rim work for tubeless, better than any off the shelf kit. Just buy the valve stem, sealant and a roll of gorilla tape and give it a try. It's a cheap experiment. Just remember to use compressed air to seat the tire (you probably already knew that).

I'm more worried about the tire coming off the bead at 40psi. Hmmmm, I need tubies.

Non tubeless ready rims with tube type tires do burp easier. Some combinations work, most don't. Tubeless tire on tube type rim with Gorilla tape seems to be a more reliable combo. Some folks run the tape all the way out under the bead to sort of preload it, helping to keep it seated.

I was actually pretty shocked to see someone makes them for bikes. I'm not sure I would trust those tires from shearing apart on a trail, though.

I'm kind of surprised they havent made it out yet with the style I posted. I think the company that makes the ones I posted are having trouble with development funds, last I heard they were focusing on the excavator market to build their revenue stream before expanding.

So, last night I did 2 laps and broke the RD hanger. Tonight I was on the first lap of the CX race and had flat, front tire rolled off the bead, crashed, and people managed to ride over the bicycle and trash the front wheel and new RD hanger.

I GIVE THE **** UP.

I know you guys aren't going to believe this ****, I don't either.

That was my second. I've paid $60 in entry fees and run less than three laps. I'm still furious this morning, about to go ride in a thunderstorm.

Do I need to abandon the tubes/clinchers and switch to something else? This really feels like a losing battle.

how does a tire just roll off a bead?

Trying to run lower pressures, or was the tire not put on well?


Edit: I remember this happening with old shitty steel wheels growing up... but I haven't had it happen since going to a machined aluminum rim, ever.

I still grind the lawyer tabs off my bikes. Quick release is supposed to be quick release, and people are supposed to know how to use them.

Except the commuter with disk brakes because Surley was stubborn and did not turn the dropouts around, so that braking force pushes the wheel out. If they had switched the left and right dropouts, then the fender bosses would have been in the exact same locations and the braking forces would have been against the side, not the opening. No new parts, just correct assembly.
