At 949 Racing we are encouraged to ride. I have a couple of older bikes that Emilio characterized as "noodly" ... at best. The look KG361 was purchased new in 2001 when I was a lowly grad student at Clemson in SC. We converted it to an aero setup when Emilio donated the running gear from his Fuji frame after he upgraded to Di2 stuff. I used duct tape to bind wire housings to the frame for all the aeros. We discovered that it was almost unrideable with an aero front wheel. Massive speed wobbles left me using an old Ksyrium on the front end. My road bike is a Cannondale Six13 from 2007. It was nice then, but only slightly less "noodly" than the Look. It had developed a nasty clicking from the BB and got parked waiting for me to get around to fixing it. Which meant that I was riding the janky, zip tied, duct taped Look all the time. I think it was driving Emilio nuts, since he gave me this as a gift:

In 20 years of riding I have only had 3 bikes. This is the first modern all carbon frame and I am excited to give it a go. I was at a huge bike disadvantage and now I won't be able to blame my equipment when he kicks my ***.
FWIW, I also have a Klein Quantum. Last ridden in 2001 and has been in storage ever since. Kinda want to do something with it, just not sure what.

It is. But I would call it a sport rather than a hobby.
If you go up far enough you will see xrays of my acitabulum (hip socket). In a wheelchair for 6 weeks. That is when I swore off recreational road riding and decided to turbo the Miata.
16 months later, I'm buying a new bike, and back on the road.

Just broke 100 miles on the Emonda this morning. Had to bring the seat up to the max line to get proper leg extension, but I am feeling comfortable on this bike overall even with the bars set 50mm below the seat. Unfortunately with how I'm built I have a hard time fitting on bikes in stock configuration, but this one has been better than my last or others I've tried. The 54cm I need to bring the seat to max line to fit my legs correctly, but on the 56cm I was overreaching, whereas the length of the 54cm is just about perfect for me on the hoods, in the drops, and on the bars.
Going to ride to the LBS tomorrow after work for some more time on the trainer, I doubt I'll need it but they do make a longer seat cap (like a seatpost but inside out) than the one I have, so if the max line on the seatmast is still too low, I'll need to look into the longer cap. Got a 25-30 mile ride home planned from work today with the seat at max (2mm higher than on the ride in) to see if it makes any difference.
Got into a Strava top 10 on the way in, and missed two others by literally 2 seconds. Also getting more confident leaning on the bike, I've had a mental block on it since I took a spill in the wet but am slowly getting over it

For those of you that follow road racing, you absolutely must watch the Mens Olympic Road Race. Brutally tough course and an epic day of racing. Far and away the most difficult Olympic road race course ever, harder than UCI worlds road race. Well deserved winner and various heartbreaking near misses.

Far and away the most difficult Olympic road race course ever, harder than UCI worlds road race. Well deserved winner and various heartbreaking near misses.

So, who thinks it's reasonable to believe I can maintain fitness on the trainer and come back to race CX in November? Should I get that out of my head and concentrate on off-season base miles? The lack of a decent CX season with all the work I' ve done is sad.

You have already asked the trainer question Trey. Plenty of stories over the years of riders having great success with the bulk of their preparation on the trainer. Mind numbing but it works. When I have to ride the "ergo", I watch movies on Netflix and have a tray for snacks, fluids next to me. Much easier to spin for 2.5 hrs when watching a movie.
