So I work for an airline, and as a benifit, I get free tickets. I want to take a weekend trip somewhere cool, and I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas? The only limitation is I cannot fly to Europe or Hawaii (yeah I know, sucks, whatever). And of course it is a weekend thing, so the flight time must be reasonable (Ill have to plan a time to go to Australia).

Flying out of Pittsburgh.

Miami for the weekend sounds nice, or maybe somewhere in the Caribbean?

Both would be nice.. Oh I forgot! My grandfather has a condo in ft.lauderdale... Now to get those keys...

For a weekend, that's a tough one, not many places I would want to go for just a weekend period, especially not by plane from the east coast. I'd get somewhere around St. Louis probably, lots of nice craft brewers in that area that could occupy my time pretty easily. Now for my free plane tickets to anywhere in the world for 14 days during R7R when I'm downrange...that's going to be a tough decision to make.

Salt lake city, Utah. The NASA nationals are gong on next week. Either way enjoy.

Have a great day,
Jared

KPLAFIN 09-10-2010 10:41 PM

Carribean, Sahara, driving tours through the west, am I mistaken in reading that he only gets a weekend including flight times?

kotomile 09-10-2010 11:12 PM

Abu Dhabi or Dubai, hands down. I'd love to check either of those places out.

I have a free round-trip flight coming to me in October, and I'm going to Hawaii with it. Cliche, I know, but I have a good friend there and he knows the ins and outs better than I. Plus it's better than here.

You can tour through the west in 2 days. Done it before.

And for western sahara, half a day to a day is good enough before he gets himself in trubbel.

Been to Dubai a few times...it is an awesome city, and they actually have really good Chinese food.

Black hills, ESPECIALLY the badlands. I could stay there for days at a time - since it's a national park you can bascially go wherever, climb the rocks, walk wherever the fuck you want. The views are breathtaking.

I have never in my entire life enjoyed a tourist-y vacation (Hated Europe, hated Puerto Rico, hated Florida) but I LOVED this. Needle's highway, wildlife reserves, everything about the area is amazing (Only thing in SD that is...). I'm going to take my Miata back next year (I was with the family in an Expadition).

jtothawhat 09-10-2010 11:49 PM

Yeah man, I guess it really matters on what you like to do/see. Caribbean is close and tropical, good for laying by the beach, looking at bishes, and eating good food; the other places such as Badlands, Colorado, etc are good for site seeing, hiking, trails, more out doors type activities.

Miller for NASA or a Grand Am race.

There's always California wine country and I'll make a list for you if you want.

I wouldn't want to visit Hawaii on only one weekend from the east coast. Waste too much time in traveling. It's been a couple of years, but I believe it works out to losing 6 hours one-way and then the entire day the other way.

Point being, keep it close by, like you mentioned.

turotufas 09-11-2010 06:09 AM

Disney World! Actually I'd go to the California park, I haven't been there thirty times.

As a Florida resident, I took the opportunity to check out Disneyland when I was in Cali. I'm glad I went so I can say I did, but it'll be a disappointment if you've been to DW. Imagine the Magic Kingdom, a little smaller, and older and generally more run down, and that's DL.

NA6C-Guy 09-11-2010 07:22 AM

Honestly, for just a weekend, I wouldn't want to go anywhere. That's a lot of trouble for a short trip, and I personally would never be able to really wind down and relax in such a short and rushed trip. If this was a leave Friday afternoon and return Sunday night kind of thing, I would want to stay on the east coast. Where that would be, I don't know. Not really anywhere over here I'd like to really visit for a few days. Maybe NYC for some good food and a visit to the WTC site.

mazpr 09-11-2010 08:37 AM

You should go to Gainesville, FL.

On such a short time, I really liked Tybee Island, nice white sandy beaches, crsytal clear water. Although try to stay near Tybee, once you go out it is a little ghettoish and terribly poor.

The area does looks like the 2005 movie Skeleton key.

rleete 09-11-2010 08:58 AM

NYS Finger Lakes is a perfect weekend destination. Fly in to Rochester, rent a car and an hour later you are there. Fresh cider making is just starting about now, and each of the lakes has it's own wine tours. Schedule in late Sept through October and the leaves are turning, so it's really something to see.

Airport code: SXM

Take a taxi to Orient Bay and enjoy having drinks with the topless European girls. Ask me how I know...
