...and, I'm done.

Well, as of today, I'm officially unemployed and out of the tech industry. Did the exit interview thing, signed all the papers promising not to disclose any of what I've invented or learned over the past nine years (despite the fact that all patents are public record), not to sell trade secrets, not to enter into contracts with representatives of a surprisingly long list of foreign governments, yadda yadda... Went out for a few beers with the crew after work, came home and sold my motorcycle to a young marine who is probably out killing himself on it right now, and I'm at least 1/5 of the way into a handle of Bacardi Gold at the moment.

What an astoundingly liberating experience.

KPLAFIN 07-26-2008 01:47 AM

So what've you got planned now Joe?

jayc72 07-26-2008 02:23 AM

He's going to law school so he can learn to write all those fancy NDAs :)

blue turbo mx5 07-26-2008 05:53 AM

wow that blows

Doppelgänger 07-26-2008 07:06 AM

I had my exit interview on thursday. Yes, after all that time looking for a job, i resign after 4 weeks lol. But for good reason. I got a job offer from a place I had an interview with months ago. The position is testing all the programming for all the major satellite companies (Dish, AT&T etc...). So basically i'll be getting paid to watch TV all day lol.

G/L on your new ventures Joe!

y8s 07-26-2008 08:10 AM

m2cupcar 07-26-2008 11:02 AM

I thought he got a job writing factory service manuals for the tata model headed for the local walmart. :dunno:

Which you'll come to realize at law school that non-competes mean dick. Free enterprise baby.

Congrats Joe. No bike at school eh?

IcantDo55 07-26-2008 12:47 PM

Congrats!

You will get board of doing nothing,I did after about 2 months. Cheers!

xturner 07-26-2008 06:26 PM

It must be a big relief to leave a job you didn't really like to pursue your own agenda.

A turbo-miata-driving lawyer that isn't just a greed-head asshole sounds like an improvement in the breed. Congrats and best of luck.

Joe -

Congrats!

Enjoy the lull. I expect once classes start, your best friends will be the library, no-doze and Red Bull...

JULES
Basically, I'm gonna walk the earth.

VINCENT
What do you mean, walk the earth?

JULES
You know, like Caine in "KUNG FU." Just walk from town to town, meet people, get in adventures.

VINCENT
So you decided to be a bum?

Not a whole lot. Driving out on the 31'st, planning four days' time for that. Settle in, get oriented, and the fun begins Aug 18.

Don't really need it. Got a room in a house that's basically right across the street from the campus.

Who said I wasn't a greedy asshole?

johndoe 07-27-2008 12:15 AM

Have any idea of what kind of law you want to do? I'm sure you're going to do well. I have a friend who just recently graduated from law school and I can tell you his class mates were not genius' by any stretch of the imagination. The schoolwork doesn't seem overly difficult, there's just a lot of it.

congrats...I have put my education on hold for the past year (got married) and will put in hold for another year (buying a house, need to get back on our feet)...stupid move I know but shit happens.......very smart move of you to pursue a better career.

naarleven 07-27-2008 05:27 PM

I've still got 2 more years of undergrad and then i'm going to be doing the same thing.

Hope it all works out Joe.

Zabac 07-28-2008 01:18 AM

Congrats Joe, I am awaiting a similar experience shortly...
Best of luck to you, we'll have to get a few beers in once you're settled in.

kotomile 07-28-2008 01:47 AM

Congrats Joe, I just did something similar. I'm still in the Army, still in the same branch, but I swear I will never have a job where I'm considered an Analyst ever again. And that makes me a very, very happy man.

Duckie_uk 07-28-2008 04:43 AM

There seem to be quite a few of us heading back into education. I swear we just miss the drinking and lack of responsibility.....er I mean that we obviously strive to improve ourselves and the world around us :D
