I'm officially a Semen!

Signed my contract and swore in this morning. Ship date isn't until August 2011 the latest. If a spot opens sooner I could leave sooner. Here is the info on the job I chose if anyone is interested. I'm very excited and can't wait to ship out.

Interesting. Didn't know you were looking into the Navy. Good luck.

Bond 08-24-2010 11:59 AM

That looks really cool, but I thought you were "married with children"

KPLAFIN 08-24-2010 12:01 PM

You're going to be a seamen...that is an aviation machinist's mate... and you drive a Miata..... FYL. :giggle:

gospeed81 08-24-2010 12:07 PM

You're going to wash choppers all day...ask my cousin about it...same MOS.

SlideRuler 08-24-2010 12:16 PM

I was an OS in the Navy from 2005 to 2009. Congrats, shipmate. When we would go on deployments, we'd get squadrons attached to our ship and I remember seeing the aviation crew all the time. They really had it pretty easy...you'll have fun. Plus, the Post-9/11 GI Bill is awesome. Seriously, just by going to school they pay me $2,000 a month to eat and live...so basically everything I've done to my car including the car itself was paid for just by doing well in school...

ASVAB Score Requirements: VE+AR+MK+MC=210 and AR+2MK+GS=194
Is it generally difficult or easy to get these scores?

SlideRuler 08-24-2010 01:00 PM

I got an 89 on the ASVAB. I don't even know what that means about the 210 or 194 since I thought the highest is 99 or 100...

fooger03 08-24-2010 01:00 PM

They're going to let you near military aircraft!?!?

God help us.

You'll note that they don't let me near airplanes.

wayne_curr 08-24-2010 01:26 PM

Congrats Phil.

"...and if they choose, rescue swimmer training."

Hmm, how many skin divers does it take to rescue a drowning seaman?
