and only $21k msrp.

no one can touch that.

m2cupcar 09-21-2006 08:12 PM

And nobody better say SRT4. I thought it was going to be $25k. That's real nice. Is this yours? thoughts?

jcocke 09-21-2006 08:29 PM

Huh, only $21k? If thats the case, when they hit the showrooms, I'll be trading in the wife's 3 for that beautiful thang! All hale MazdaSpeed! Thanks for the sweet pics by the way.

UofACATS 09-21-2006 08:57 PM

That's AWD right? I like it! It looks great.

kung fu jesus 09-21-2006 09:01 PM

no, no awd. lsd tho.

color me impressed when they drop THAT engine in a Miata and keep it under 25k

I'm too cheap to make payments on a car, so no, thats not my car. Its like the perfect daily though.

I can't wait to see one of those get stuffed in a miata. I've been considering the MZR swap, but don't know if they will even fit. When my father scores one in one of his auto salvage yards, I'll get serious. Until then, I plan on doing a turbo system on a 1.8.

Braineack 09-21-2006 10:42 PM

if it was only awd or rwd.

miatamania 09-21-2006 11:40 PM

suppossed to be FWD w/ = length axles...no tq steer :D

steelrat 09-22-2006 09:19 AM

Reviews in the papers here of the mzspd 3 have said it does have some torque steer... with the "mods" to make it not have it, it would be next to impossible to drive. Right now, it's at a "fun" level... <G>

Drool.... too bad all we get is red north of the border.....

SC for the one car, snail for the winter car... drool.....

Dave,

Philip 09-22-2006 09:35 AM

yay for high 15 seconds in the 1/4 :ugh2:

Braineack 09-22-2006 10:23 AM

High 15's!

I'd rather get a Legacy GT and pay like 16k for something with 20k on it, for a 14.1sec 1/4 mile AWD car.

turbopezz 09-22-2006 10:32 AM

yea the legacy gt:bigtu:

bripab007 09-22-2006 10:40 AM

They even limited the boost in the first three gears to limit torque steer. I think it'll be more like mid-14s in the 1/4.

its a daily driver. Anyone racing a fwd car in general should re-evaluate thier life.

Yeah, I'd still take a legacy gt over that.

mazdaspeed needs to stop making DD cars. The MS6 would be cool, but they purposfully toned it down.

The Legacy GT is #2 a potential DD buy. E36 M3 is above it.

German cars are so unreliable man...don't do it.

nicacus 09-22-2006 05:44 PM

they need to bring back the MX-3 as an awd turbo using the klze

mmmm I would shat myself

firedog25 09-22-2006 10:57 PM

Just out of curiosity, what's everyone's hardon for AWD? The Mazdaspeed6, while all wheel drive, is not full time all wheel drive, it's primarily fwd. The handling dynamics of awd vehicles is that of a front driver unless you bugger it up by playing with the suspension.

And, yes, I do own an awd car. I bought mine for it's rallying heritage though.

Braineack 09-22-2006 11:06 PM

i like corners and launches.

Yeah, keep launching an AWD car hard and see how it holds up.

Braineack 09-22-2006 11:23 PM

same can be said for my little 6" Never owned an AWD and I'm aware of the issues, but I driven them and like how they feel.

[QUOTE=firedog25;46042]Just out of curiosity, what's everyone's hardon for AWD? QUOTE]

beats me too.

m2cupcar 09-23-2006 10:42 AM

I've never raced a fwd car, but they can't be all that bad. CRX is the choice for ITA in scca club racing and the RSX/TSX and 6s regularly top the A4 & BMW 3s in Speed Challenge. It's obvious they can be made to compete, but from a driver/car stand point, they just drive differently. And perhaps it's all in the "leveling" set forth by the sanctioning body. IMO it goes against what works in a traditional sense, and is probably why they don't work on the ultra high end- as in built GTs and prototypes. The GTs are based on production cars, and you don't see any high end fwd in that arena. I tracked my wife's 626 5spd v6 and it was amazingly nimble for the power and light weight, but a bitch to get it to turn with stock parts. Basically I'd hold the brakes on through the braking zone and half way to the apex. As soon as it felt like it was about to loop, I'd floor and drive out of the spin. That ain't fast. I just don't like feeling my drive wheels through my steering wheel.

Not a chance. Every car has its quirks. Now a Ford........thats unreliable.
I am excited to be going back to german FWD.:)

As for AWD and the appeal I guess see if you can strap yourself in a stock Evo and go for a drive. The car is absolutley one of the most sorted factory cars you will ever drive. The only other car I can think of that feels that "right" out of the box is an E36 M3.
After my first Evo drive I was dead set on getting one. The only thing I couldn't get over is I am not a huge fan of the styling and the fact that I was would end up in jail because every kid in town would be wanting to race me all day long.

Yeah, its definitely faster than 15s. My GTI w/ around 20 less HP was a solid 14.5, but it was around 100 lbs lighter...also, no LSD on the GTI.

14s are not uncommon in the 1.8T world...and mine was far from stock. I wish I could have got it to handle as good as the 3 though. It was still a pig to lug around the track.

I wonder what the dealer markup is gonna be on these babies. I have a feeling my local dealer is gonna try to stick it to buyers.

hustler 09-27-2006 09:28 AM

Why even go to the drag strip if you are only going to run 14's? I've never enjoyed that.

jcocke 09-27-2006 02:26 PM

I agree, its all relative though. 14s are slow to most people. I went b/c I had never been before, and I haven't been back either. A dragstrip is no place for FWD IMO.

I would like to have the opportunity to take one of those Mazdaspeed 3s around the road course though!

Braineack 09-27-2006 02:40 PM

I ran a 15.7 in my altima! It was acutally impressive since it was bone stock. But yeah, it's boring compared to a sub 14 machine.

m2cupcar 09-27-2006 03:54 PM

...or a track with turns... in both directions ;)

At least one person is thinking right. Who cares about 1/4 mile times. If you wanta go fast in a straight line, buy a mussle car.

ultimateforce 10-01-2006 10:22 AM

Here I am with the first Mazdaspeed car in the US and it's the lemon of the line.

:(

Funny, the monaro turned the same exact time, to the tenth on top gear's course as the STi. Where is the AWD advantage again?

14's are very common.. because it's slow as balls.

bripab007 10-01-2006 01:41 PM

Fool, go back to your 450hp, two-ton car ;)

Philip 10-01-2006 03:51 PM

closer to 525 probably.

bripab007 10-01-2006 04:25 PM

Yeah, whatever...can you even feel a 75hp difference with a car that heavy?

Oh...snap:gay:
