Inflation issues or just being cheap bastards?
This might be in the wrong section...but anyway...What is wrong with the people I deal with?...everytime I want to sell something someone gives me some kind of lame excuse like "you want $100 shipping included for a turbo? but I'll have to buy a rebuild kit for $90 from gpop shop" Dude...so you'll have $200 wrapped up into a perfectly good turbo then...WTF don't I understand here...I understand people want good deals, but Geez, where do you draw the line?

Everyone feels that they deserve a discount on whatever your asking price is. The easiest thing might be to price it too high and then after they cry and whine, sell it to them for what you really wanted. Otherwise just call them a stupid ass cry baby and tell them to grow up and pay a reasonable price.
My experience selling miata parts has been mixed. I've had about 75% either pay me full asking price or make me intelligent offers. The other 25% has been full of people offering me half of what an item is really worth or trying to show me similar items priced at rediculous prices. For example, I was selling a hardtop. I listed it for $1000 and somebody offered me $300 and gave me a sob story about how it was for his son and that was all his son could afford. I told him to fuck off and he then said he could chip in an additional $300 to help his son out. He then proceeded to tell me a story of how he saw a hardtop for sale a week before for $400. I responded by telling him that he should have bought that one then. I never heard back from him. |
In my FS threads I usually post warnings to the effect of 'if you lowball me i'm going to make fun of you and/or your mother".
Best way to handle it is just don't do business with people who make retarded offers. |
I see it as why not at least "TRY" to get it cheaper? :hustler:

But what I've dealt with on occasion and what the OP writes is just bullshit. Whining about a $100 turbo is stupid. I personally don't have a big problem with somebody lowballin' me if they don't give me a sob story along with the offer. That doesn't mean that I'll accept their lowball offer, but at least they won't lose my respect. Consider a $100 part: Acceptable lowball: Hey dude, I'd like to offer you $60 shipped. Unacceptable: Hey dude, your price is way too high for that item because my buddy just sold one for $20 and I just lost my job and can't afford $100 because I have to feed my 10 bastard children. Now give me the part for basically free because I live my life with my hand out looking for the next free lunch. |
I parted out a couple of miatas when I was building my Locost 7, lots of parts sold here. I priced my stuff fairly and had very few lowball offers. I think it has something to do with need vs want. They NEED a fender or a hood, window regulator or radio bezel, so they pay a fair price. They WANT a turbo or a BOV, but they have no $, so they whine and cry and try to get dirt cheap. Just my experience.

Fact is, people's balls are bigger when e-haggling. Very few would have the nerve to make some of those offers in person.

I agree with this statement to a certain degree. If you offer $90 on a $100 part or ask for free shipping on a lightweight item, that's a reasonable offer.

You think some Miata owners can be bad about low balling... try Honda/Acura owners.

It'd be a good deal for her, 'cause with just over eighty of us that works out to seventy five cents per dude which is like half again her normal rate. |
When selling the Wiseco's I had some interesting lowballers from Mnet as well, one guy offered me $300 shipped. I had already sold them for full asking price by then and proceeded to tell him: "Pistons sold at full price, take your lowballin sorry ass somewhere else."
Never heard from him again. I don't mind lowballers, they take inslults and leave, and make your sale interesting if you don't a lot of hits on some items. |
Worst 3 Lowballer Types:
3. Those that lowball once and you never hear from again 2. Those that lowball once on everything you sell 1. Those that lowball and then then try to justify their offer in follow-up PM's. |
