Google's new location/ meta-interaction based Augmented Reality Game. Anybody got an invite? I just discovered this today and spent a couple hours rooting through all of the stuff on the propaganda page I linked above. Apparently invites are impossible to come by at this point. I applied for mine, but some of my buddies have been on the list for three weeks or more.


This looks like a lot of fun...

I don't know much about it other than the fact that it is more than likely used by Google to collect data on walking routes for future walking navigation.

We'll give you what you want, google, as long as you provide some amusement in return.

Fuck you, Im still waiting for the damn code.

Apparently the only way to get a code is to wait forever on the list, or know somebody.

I don't know anybody, either. One of the guys on my local forum posted some ideas about how to get an invite. I'll post back if any of them work.

And got an invite. Poking around today.

I spent a few hours last Friday night playing the game on a coworkers phone. We were doing an art walk in downtown Charleston and there happened to be a million portals all over the place.

I don't have a smarphone to waste my life on stuff like this, but if i did i can't see what's fun about it.

I've watched a few videos, and it just seems dumb. What's the point? I really do try to like stuff like this, but i just can't see the point of this "game". Maybe someone can help me out. *I'm not bashing it, i just don't get it.

I'm thinking it's kinda like PlanetSide 2, except in real life. At least that's what I got from reading about it.

But that still doesn't tell me the point of it. Also the whole thing where you have to provide some type of physical effort. ugh

I wouldn't do it all day long. But I need something to do while I am walking to and from the bars.

I have 3 bars walking distance so close that by the time i could get my phone out, launch the app, and figure out what's going on i'd be more than half way home.

Ah, I'm about 2 miles from Circle Center in downtown Indy, so I have lots of time and lots of shit to pass up on my way there. I don't actually know if anything's there, but I'm guessing there is lots of stuff.

We ride bikes down town a bunch when it's warm enough, and this would add something else for us to do while aimlessly wandering around down town Huntsville.

Is there any rhyme or reason to the invite system? I've had it installed since 12/2, still no invite :(

Probably not. Did you go to the website and request an invite, or just install the app and expect it to happen on its own?

Well yes, I could have phrased that better. Signed up and installed since 12/2, now I'm starting to wonder if I gave them the correct email address

That sucks. Nexus 4's are on sale again today! Grab one of those while they last.

Are they starting to give out more invites? I want to play, I'm downtown all the time.

I saw that, but the Nexus4 isn't 4G LTE. Much like 3g before the iPhone launch, 4G LTE around here is DISTURBINGLY fast. I think its faster than my service at the house actually.

Ah, I don't care about speeds, I got straight talk because its $45 a month and no contract. It's at least as fast as my old sprint service.

It took like 4-5 days and I got an invite.

I still haven't done anything with Ingress. When I say that the point of the game is to walk around like a dumbass looking at your phone, I lost pretty much all interest.
