Intake install confusion.
I'm installing a cold air intake on my 2007 cx-7. The instructions are pretty detailed, but it tells me to disconnect the battery cable. I don't want to do this cause I don't feel like resetting all my crap. I called the company that made my intake and the said "if you don't do that, it'll run like crap." I said "will it throw a CEL?" They said "probably not, but you need to disconnect the battery to reset the computer to recalibrate the MAF."
Something doesn't sound right to me. What's your guy's input? |

Shit don't make no sense. If I don't "reset the computer (recalibrate the MAF)", it won't throw a code, but it'll run like shit. How is that?

Can't claim to know much about OBDII, but I would imagine it would throw a code. Is the stock airbox that restrictive?

I'm gonna say yes. If it was non turbo, it would be questionable.

The ECU should compensate anyways, whether you disconnect the battery or not. That is what it does as the car ages and parts aren't working as well as they were when new. Everytime I disconnect the battery on older OBD2 cars, the car never starts the first time. The second time it barely starts and then it catches itself and runs normally. Its basically that whole process in action.
But I guess if it runs like shit, disconnect the battery. |
