Interesting article about some parts we make
http://www.mmsonline.com/articles/050801.html
This is how we make most of our OHC finger followers. Kinda crazy how it's all made in one operation on a lathe using bar-stock. http://www.mmsonline.com/mag_images/050801a.jpg |
Damn it would be nice having access to all that equipment.

Nice article! We have two three axis live tooling lathes here at work and often make small parts that require no turning. The fact that you don't have to load blanks into a mill removes the operator, thus lowering OH costs. Add to that the fact that the part can be made in one setup it can greatly increase the quality of the part as all dimensions are machined to the same datum--no positional error when refixturing the part for a subsequent operation.

There is a very large amount of awesomeness in this. Hell, I'm happy when I can get a part out of my mini-lathe that is actually round and within spec. :D

I want your job :)
