Question Is INTERNET BRANDS taking over the world?

Seriously, I can list on one hand the amount of forums left that were NOT recently bought out by them.

So since Rick "sold out" and we're now their minions, I'm just curious if anyone knows any actual details about what their next step is taking over the world?

(but seriously, I'm curious if they have some crazy strategy I haven't heard of yet to "rule the internetz" )

Discuss?

Or don't, lol.

I can't remember if it was IB who bought the board I was a moderator on but I remember discussing with the head guy their plans. Basically, they felt that they could attract much bigger advertisers (think corporate) if they could quote traffic numbers of all of the forums combined instead of the piddly traffic a board like MT has.

(no idea if that's IB's business model)

Interesting. I wonder how long then, til the board is literally infested with advertising and stupid facebook "like" bullsh*t that this normally brings with it.

It's already begun. I can't wait to tweet about the next cat picture that gets posted. Lots of people outside of mt care.

Well i think IB has a fantastic business

Forums have such a large user base, with recuering visits and site dediccation. Many many eyes for much time.

I think they could def pull more $ more securely than FB. FB can be toppled if another more popular soc networking app/site comes along.

What will topple a forum?

Only thing i can think of is constant livejasmin popups. And other boards.

Also, i have a popup for you bby.

Ok so i was right. Looked at wiki

They were acquired in 2010 for 610M

That is a lot of cash for annual net profit of 12M.

Expect a massive IPO in a few years. I dont see a monolithic intenrt company like google or fb acquiring them. That is a lot of cash to shoehorn a highly distributed product into their business vision.

I think specialized communites are much more stable than general communities. Boards provide that.

Still waiting for Ghost in the Shell style virtual chat rooms though.

Forums are probably the BEST place to advertise IMO.

The people that go on fb are looking to kill time, stalk, post useless bs, etc. They're most likely not logging in to shop.

Forums however are a completely different beast. People are coming onto specific forums for specific reasons. Related vendors and services would be foolish not to advertise on them.

I've had dozens of ideas for forum advertising over the years. I usually write them down in case I ever have the chance to use them.

Yah IB has major clout.

Obv though hey are not capitalizing on their userbase enough. Sales fail.

Either you really think kitties and turbos are awesome or you don't belong here. We have no patience for poseurs.

I choose to do business with forum sponsors of this place whenever feasible. I think many of us have that same sense of loyalty. And advertisers kill for targeted audiences who are likely buyers of their goods and services. I agree with your assessments of phasebook as well.

When livejasmin first popped up here I closed my browser, updated my antivirus, and performed a scan. Popups and that kind of shit is the only thing that could drive me away. Popups are like zits on a hot girl's ass.

Sadly, I've been getting at least one or two popups every time I log in here to browse, and even ------- AdBlock doesn't counter them.

I gave AdBlock an exception to this site untill it started using popups, then ---- dat shiz. AdBlock got the okay to hit this site, but it still doesn't block some of the goddamn popups.

I'm not getting popups, but after opening about 5 or 6 tabs, my CPU goes to 100% usage, and the whole thing freezes for a bit. IE8 (all I can use at work) on WinXP.
