I have a chance to get a iphone for $200, its clean.

Do i have to register it with ATT? Can i use anyone else? Anyplace with a month to month contract? I want to try it out before i ditch my treo.

you can have the phone unlocked and used on any carrier.

you can get a pretty cheap unlimited internet plan at ATT.

how do you unlock a phone, i've searched a number of times and found nothing...

My sister and her husband both have iphones and at&t with no issues.

I've been with Cingular/ATT for 5 years now without issue.

Yeah im with sprint, and I dont know if I am going to switch, I need a GSM with a prepaid system.

I want to try the phone without signing a 2 year agreement.

Can i add music without itunes? I hate that program

Oh the other question, how do i know if it has firmware 1.12 from the factory?

The only place you ever need to go for anything Iphone related.

If 60 bucks a month without taxes is cheap, then go for it.

haha i have 2000 anytime minutes with EVDO for 60 bucks a month. God i wish sprint had the iphone.

i dunno if you can do it with the iphone but I can tether my SE w810i and surf wirelessly on my laptop too for that same price. violates all sorts of TOS but it doesn't seem to make a difference to my ability to surf ;)

FWIW, if you tell ATT you dont want a contract, they wont give you one. I think it may cost slightly more but it's hassle free.

Thats what i will do, wait can you DUN with th iphone? One of my favorite features of the Treos

just all the hacks that i have installed on my iphone make it worth it... i have international radio (live stream), shit load of games from tetris, to tic tac toe, to labrynth, NES games, 1000 songs and still room for more crap. Probably the best phone ive ever owned

I have all that on me treo, plus snes, sega, 3DO, and a keypad.

Using your phone as a modem with a PC is easy as cake with sprint, but hard as hell with Tmo or ATT. Besides, why would you want to? The awesome 56k speeds?

I didnt know they still do plans with no contracts, im not gonna go search but I highly doubt it.


If you are smart, when renewal time comes around you get in on an employee pricing plan and get that same service for 30 a month. ;)

if im smart ill work for a place that covers my cell phone bill and my gfs every month ;)

up to $150/month. I think im still gonna buy the iphone, for 200 i can always sell it or use it as an ipod.

totally have a no-contract plan. you just dont get a free phone or other crap you dont need.

the reason I use the tethering is because sometimes I'm places without internet access but still have cell phone access. and I dont want to pay for a real service.

You like the Treo? Mine's been an enormous headache, speaker goes out, touchpad intermittently goes out, can't answer incoming calls, etc. Did I just get a bad apple?

I've had my treo650 for 2.5 years. I'm a heavy user, and other than the screen breaking once, it's been fine. The screen failure was my fault--I knocked it off the kitchen counter and it fractured when it hit the tile. Replacement screen was a PITA to deal with, but was done at a local service center while I waited for $40.

I have friends with the iphone. While it is a slick interface, it didn't offer anything extra that was real. It has the pinch-zoom and the voicemail you can listen to in any order. BFD
I have open source, expansion, user replaceable battery, and a videocam.

oh on a side note...the iphone isnt like the treo..they are nearly bulletproof.

My brother-in-law and I went to a bar instead of buying pizza while my sister sat at home last weekend. She was pissed to say the least and hurled her iphone at her husband a lot harder than I would've thought she was capable of, bouncing it off of his chest before falling to the floor. It suffered zero damage.
