Default I've been fearing this day....

What is today? Well, it's the first time in 4 years that I actually need to go to the doctor. I have Strep throat...and bad. This **** sucks.

So why make a big deal out of goign to the doc? Oh..because it's going to cost me 20% of the friggin' visit. Since DISH Network is run by a bunch of cheap assclowns, we get super shitty benefits. Part of the reason is because DISH's call centers have like a 120% turn over rate...but hey, they just split DISH into two companies...DISH and Echostar (mine). You see, Echostar is the division that does al lthe developing, testing, software writing and QA. We are a billable company. BUT. Rather than be nice to it's employees, upper management still cuts corners on things like......benefits!

My revenge? My *** is sitting here at work right now...caughing, sneezing and doing everything in my powers to spread my sickness. Assholeish? Maybe. Have I mentioned that I don't have any sick time? But wait...it's only March and I have no sick time? Oh nooooo. Once again, thank the retards that have nothing better to do, they have this cool policy on sick time. You get it....one the first day of the new calendar year AFTER one's 2 year anniversary. Meaning, my 2-year is in July..I don't get any available sick time until Jan 2011.

Sorry for the rant. I'm not very happy that I NEED to go to the doc for this and will have to pay far more than I should have to because of some assfucks cost-cutting on our medical benefits. The way things worked at my old job was great... I had my PCP and any time I needed to go it would only cost me $20....walk-in or appt.....and picking up meds was like a few bucks.

On a side note- Now because my throat is so swollen, I cannot swollow my own saliva...so I've been using my garbage can in my cube as a spatoon...and it's probably got a good 10oz of fluid in the bottom

Wow no sick days for 2 years? That seems a little bit odd, I'd say it's fair to assume someone gets sick once a year. I've always been pro stay at home the eff away from me if you are sick. Better to rest and get back on your feet as fast as possible and not spread it. It's **** like that that pisses me off, to some guy cutting costs in an office on paper it looks like giving less sick time is saving money, when in fact it's not.

Hope ya feel better, being sick suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

DUDE! Didn't you hear? They passed the healthcare reform last night. Just send the bills to Obama, he'll pay for it. You so lucked out, being sick on Obama's dime is AWESOME.

Sorry you feel bad.

Oh while I was there the doc threw me some sample inhalant to keep my springtime asthma under control. I asked if I could get a 'scipt of Combivent because that stuff works...but Doc Man said "why spend the money when I have samples of newer, better stuff to give you". No wheezing because the tree sperm are attacking my lungs this year. Win.

You can't get out of work with a doctor's note? That sucks.

Did Dish Network ever go through with not allowing their members to access **** like Cartoon Network and Comedy Central? I remember years ago (when I watched TV), seeing commercials saying Dish Network was moving to lock its customers out of a litany of channels. Seemed pretty gay.

In all honesty... All that means is that the supplier is giving him some perks (dinner, golfing, vacations, etc) for giving that to you to try and if you like it you will be back for more. Unfortunately, that is usually how it works... Hope you get to feeling better though man.

Who gives a ****? Comments like these irritate the hell out of me, doc wen to school for 8-10-12 years just so he could drive his sweet *** car home to his hot young wife living in his mansion and get free **** from medical companies (that provide a product that works and people like according to your post) ... why can't you just accept that and be happy with whatever perks YOU get from YOUR job?

it ultimately (used to?) screws insurance companies too. doctor says "here have a coupon so you pay only $1 for your fancy $500 drugs instead of the generics for $10, but then the insurance company still has to pay the difference for the medication if the name brands are $500 and the generics are $50. Wonder where the money from that comes from.... hmmm.

I'm not complaining that they get perks for what they do... I'm just giving a reason for why they give out samples of different medication over another comparible alternative. That's it, and that's all. And I agree that medical doctors do more to get their education than most people out in the job market and they DO deserve some compensation for that.

there would be no generics if private companies didn't make the brand name.

there would be no new medicine at all if govt controls the system.

it's not wrong of them to make their money back for the investment it took to develop the drug. They own it, the made it, it's theirs, you pay for it.

It IS wrong, however, to pay a doctor $20 for his services; why can he not determine the cost of his own time and investment and skill?

Is it wrong for AFCO to be selling their coilovers for $2000 since Racelands are only $240? No.

Is it wrong to force AFCO to give up trade secrets and other competitive advantages to Raceland so they have a fair share in the market? yes.

Health care is a new concept in the world, and it's expensive. We come a freaking long way even in the last few years with cures and crap. It's expensive, but it's not my duty to cure your boner. Deal with what you're dealt.

My apologies, guess I'm extra sensitive due to being all worked up about all the "evil capitalist pig insurance industry" stuff. It just seemed like you were faulting the doctor for taking advantage of his situation.

Not at all... We have that take place with our sales guys all the time. So I know the game quite well. Just hate I'm in the research labs and not selling stuff. Haha! And I feel you on the being worked up thing. Lots and LOTS of tension going around here State-side.

Econ 101. Insurance foots the bill for the fancy drugs that the patient gets for $1. Where do you think the Insurance company makes up that "loss". They raise premiums. There's a reason the great current health care system we have now has decreased benefits and quality while increasing rates 30%+ last year, and over %100 since '01.
