Seriously, guys, he talked about the interview. Well, not the interview, per se, but he mentioned visiting a certain company... nothing about his description of the visit sounded like field work for his current job.

Well let's see, my last job gave me a 1.3% raise that didn't even cover the new payroll taxes of 2013, let only any cost of living increase. My new job was a 33% pay raise over that...

Santa Clara = Silicon Valley? Apple seems the most obvious. Any number of start-ups or other smaller tech firms would also be plausible possibilities.
Alternatively, what major communications or broadcast firms have bases there?

my high school job was pharmacy delivery guy and I drove through all the areas where the tech sector grew up. In a sense, I watched it hatch in real time. This was around 1991 and on. |

You guys have it all wrong. Joe is getting a big check to jump ship so he is selling all his old crap and getting ready to buy all new top-of-the-line equipment (or going minimalist chic and paying someone else to get their hands dirty).

Well, I'd definitely have to move someplace cheaper, as $1,500 a week isn't a fuckton anywhere I've lived recently (San Diego, Silicon Valley, NYC). But on the other hand, you've very nearly described my dream job otherwise. Granted, I usually travel by air rather than by ground, but the whole "away from home for weeks on end" thing doesn't bother me in the least- I do it all the time, and in fact I get antsy when I'm in one place too long.
