Default why do tires lose grip when you burn up all the tread?

Is it a different compound or something when you run out of tread? I wanted to get one more track day out of these shitty tires, but they feel really slick suddenly.

Any logic to this, or am I dumb? I have kumho ecsta 711's.

each time a tire heats and cools it hardens the rubber. worn tires have gone through many heat cycles. hard rubber doesn't grip.

I am still trying to find a 1.8 too...and every penny of that should be going on student loans.
