Stacks and filters for a 20v toyota engine
My buddy has a black top 20v in his 88 mr2. He wants stacks with airfilters... I found some for 300 on ebay, does anyone on here know about these things? He doesn't want to pay 300 for them but i told him he is probably going to have to. I also informed him that money could be put toward a turbo kit too.

You mean IRTBs? About as popular around here as drifting.

Toyota 20V 4AGE's come stock with IRTB's. I think he was talking about individual velocity stacks with filters that bolt onto the throttle bodies rather than the stock plenum, correct? If that's the case I'd be looking at some velocity stacks for Webers of appropriate size and making an adapter, the only bolt-on stacks I've seen were all stupid expensive.
The blacktops were 11:1 compression... not a particularly turbo friendly engine. If he was going to turbo the car a MUCH better choice would be a 4AGZE from a Supercharged MR2, they have 8.4 or 8.9:1 compression (USDM or JDM), forged pistons, and adapt very well to being turbo'd.

They're rated at 170PS or about 155ish SAE HP, so in a 2400lb MR2 they work pretty well. If I were doing a swap in an MR2 it would either be the aforemention turbo swap or if I needed stealth for smog here in CA it would be a small-port 4AGE which with mild cams will get within 5hp of a blacktop and still "look" stock. 20V engines are just too big a PITA to get parts for here since they were never imported to the US market.

Yeah, finding parts for this thing blows, and he isn't that bright, and i hate working on it. He hasn't even thought to find a forum. I'm not about to sign up for one for him. Its a cool car, but geez
