Jump gone wrong.

We were out at the shop yesterday, and decided to try out a new ramp with the SAE Baja car. Unfortunately no one changed the suspension, so the takeoff was a little wacky.

The car will be rebuilt as the main damage is to the center of the frame and the two longitudinal roll bars. The driver was wearing full restraints, helmet, and a life vest to distribute the force of the belts in case something like this were to happen, and we are all very thankful that he walked away with only a cut on his shin.

Fuck me, they took the video down...

I fail.

Braineack 11-03-2008 04:15 PM

why did they take down your video?

coastertrav 11-03-2008 05:55 PM

I think they took it down because we did something retarded on campus with campus funding.

Braineack 11-03-2008 06:50 PM

read the post, the suspension wasn't charged, I'm guess the front wasn't. back looks like it loaded up and it done sprung the rear up

Rear suspension was so stiff & the baja so short, that when the rear hit the ramp the front was leaving the ground, causing it to fly bonkers.

coastertrav 11-03-2008 10:46 PM

Yeah, about.

They had the fronts set to almost full soft after the last test and tune day, and that did not lend to a very good jumping setup. When the car hit the ramp the front suspension never rebounded, where as the rear is always set very stiff because of the solid axle. So the rear acted like a springboard causing the car to rotate forward.

Also next time they are going to sort out something for a better transition onto the ramp from the grass so it is not as sharp.

Look at the bright side, constructive testing is also a blast.
And, he got one hell of a wheelie going there toward the end.
Glad to see he was not hurt. ;)

:-O

Holy shit, and I thought Jackass was staged. I guess there are crazies in this world.

Happy to hear your friend was ok.

Did you buy the control arms or make them yourselves? PS get a 4 link, swing arms are for pussies.

Did your welds fail?
