just curious

a convesation on m.net about buying cars for cash straight up (and some are saying just save up and pay 15k+ cash for a car) got me thinking. Just wondering what the salary ranges look like here for the DIY guys vs. as some term them checkbook racers.

Back in Cali, the wife made what I did, but out here in Virginia, nurses don't make shit... good thing houses are about 1/3 price.

I'm not actually sure I can get that specific here, so I'll err on the safe side.:) But there's only so many camps in Kuwait...

How many years do you have in, Sam? Any prior enlisted service?

I'm guessing an 03 base pay + BAH + BAS = 1 million gazillion fuffillion dollars. Or at least compared to an E3 @ <2 years.

Fireindc 12-24-2006 08:22 PM

Broke as hell.. =(

cjernigan 12-24-2006 08:40 PM

I work road construction in Alaska during the summer as a heavy equipment operator, and make a good wage. More than enough to go to TN for 9 months, pay for room and board, a use turbo'd '99 miata, vacation to hawaii and another to Florida, while living a good college student life in Tennessee. I'm happy, that's about it, not much excess floating around but enough to have plenty of fun.
I would only pay cash for a car, i hate bills.

No prior service (OCS, 90 day wonder)... in fact, I worked at Club Med for two years before joining the Navy ($400 a month and all of it went to booze)...I'm still workin' off that hangover.

Loki047 12-24-2006 11:07 PM

Markp 12-24-2006 11:22 PM

Philip 12-24-2006 11:49 PM

Oh. The GF pulls in like 55. I just did me.

hustler 12-25-2006 01:27 AM

my base is $42, but after overtime and per-diem, I'm looking at $73k this year.

However, I only pay cash for cars. I don't drive anything worth a shit, but I'm about to drop $8k on a 2003-2005 4-door frontier or colorado.

magnamx-5 12-25-2006 02:24 AM

I worked alot of ot but not enough apparently i wanted to breack 35K but i would be lucky to breack 30K this year. My car would be wicked fast if i made 50K + a year like some of you guys but hell that is most of what i spend my money on i have no life.

Loki047 12-25-2006 02:36 AM

I didn't know we were doing significant others, my girls makeing 60+ next year :) first year out of school and combined were pulling 110 :) (not including bonuses at least another 10-20)

Im convincing her to buy me a bike (yeah another one)

When the bank starts rolling in, everything i do will still be DIY, but alot better quality.

student loans kill my soul. I payed off a $14k credit card this year too, spent $3k on a miata, and $2k on my daily driver that still doesn't run. It disappears more quickly than you'd think.

I'm about to get sent back out for work for another 3 months making about $5400 per month...so the miata is about to get stupid.

magnamx-5 12-25-2006 02:58 AM

So dont use credit cards i have zero credit, or leins. but agian i have no life sometimes we need to simplify i wish 3k was all i had spent on my miata this year, or 5 K on my miata+ nissan+bike.
