Default Scored me some awesome fungus

Just picked these out behind my house this evening. If you are a mushroom lover, it doesn't get any bett than fresh from the woods morel mushrooms. I have a great spot every year that is literally 40 yards from my back door. This is the first crop of the season, so there are some small ones in the batch, but they still eat!

I'm suprised that there isn't even one fan. When you can find them for sale, they are around $25/lb. Pricey for a reason--because they are the goodies. Split them, light sautee in some butter. Nom, nom, nom.

I was gonna pipe in...they are quite pricey from what I've seen and heard...love mushrooms, but never had the opportunity to try morels...

The last time I tried to eat some mushrooms from my backyard, I ended up naked in a 7-11 singing show tunes.

I love mushrooms but I would NEVER pick my own. A lot of the ones that will kill you look like the edible ones.

I just learned of these this year and didn't get to enjoy any because the season is apparently very quick here in KY.

A guy told me though to dip them in milk, roll them in flour, and deep fry them lightly.... said they are AMAZING.

I'm jealous.

Great find Stein, I'm definitely a mushroom fan. I saute them in a little red wine, butter sounds scrumptious too though.

I (unknowingly) at some death angel mushroom once. Fortunately it was only a small amount and only once. I'm still here.

I like mushrooms, but Portabella is the wildest I've ever had.

Did you see the ER this last season? It had a Mushroom hunter on it with mushroom lung or something like that. Weird.

I grew up mushroom hunting for morels. Deep fried is the best way in my opinion. I dont think we have morels here in the PNW. If we do I need to find them.

On another mushroom picking note, one of the high schools I went to had a big hill just at the edge of the football field that had blue ringer mushrooms growing all over it. A couple of times we skipped class and munched um down while sitting on the hill in the sun for 6 hours. Man I miss being 16. Eventually the word got out and one kid ate a bunch and went back to class. Ruined it for everyone. They sprayed something on the hill that killed them all forever.

I sure wish I had a secret spot to pick Morels. I love mushrooms, but Morels are on a completely different scale. Uhmm, sauted in a little red wine, garlic and butter.

Seeing your post has motivated me, I'm going to the farmers market this weekend and will hopefully be able to purchase some. There are usually people selling Morels in the spring.
