So I'm fixing my cousin's ac. She has a jetta 1.8t. The fan control module has a relay for the ac. If the module craps the bed and the fans won't come on the ac won't either. So I buy a new one from an extremely large vw parts dealer. Their website says the module will fit any jetta 1.8t up to 2001 it even gives a vin number of which models it fits. Well I go to install it... and it has too few pins. I call them up and ask for an exchange and the headset wearing dick head says that it's my fault for not climbing under her car (which is two hours away) and checking before ordering. So he doesn't want to send me a ups return sticker.

thegrapist 07-25-2011 01:40 PM

My phone runs slow with that much text. The story continues: so after arguing for a while he sends me a ups sticker. So does miata turbo think I should ship it back in the largest box possible for ups ground with cinder blocks and bricks? Or will I get legally effed and this will blow up in my face?

thirdgen 07-25-2011 01:42 PM

I think you'll get legally eff'd, but I still think it's hilarious to do that to a vendor that apparently sold you the wrong part.

thegrapist 07-25-2011 01:45 PM

I just called ups. Apparently the most I can ship without it being freight is 140 lbs and a 32 cubic inch box for a grand total of $214. The part was $150. If I do it I'll take pictures and record all correspondence for the internets

mgeoffriau 07-25-2011 01:50 PM

The calltag he sent you doesn't show a package weight? I've never sent anyone a calltag without specifying the package weight.

phillyb 07-25-2011 01:51 PM

omg, please do

Take the highroad, avoid litigation.

budget racer 07-25-2011 02:01 PM

umm....clarify.....did you check the VIN before ordering it?

trickyrix 07-25-2011 02:04 PM

Take the high road... but enclose a Polaroid of your next giant dump.

See what it says under my username?

Sometimes people make mistakes. Be an adult about it.

If it was just a mistake I'd be all about it. I e mailed them pictures of the vin the connectors and the registration and all they said was that it was my faults for not checking how many connectors her fan control module had. They still wouldn't admit fault after all the evidence proved their item descriptions (there are 8 different brands sold) completely fucktarded. They then claimed that my car had a motor swap or engine harness swap. She's owned the car since it had 9 miles. And the reps I spoke to said they would not update the website to instruct the consumer to double check since it obviously doesn't go by vin or by year.

Right or wrong, sending bricks make you vulnerable to litigation...and the guy issue the letter from the attorney doesn't know the guy on his staff was mean to you and probably doesn't care in general. You should definitely escalate the issue to someone with with a stake in the company, and at the least talk shit about them on the internet.

I get it- they totally fucked up and then acted like dicks about it.

But mailing them concrete blocks does more than just open you up to litigation (which, if we're honest, is a fairly remote possibility), it also makes you seem like a guy from south Jersey.

Don't be a dick.

y8s 07-25-2011 03:01 PM

the non-dick thing to do is find out that guys name and find out who his supervisor is.

1) Acquire crappy gas station food.
2) Eat up. Get gassy.
3) Put the goods in the return box with packing paper/newspaper.
4) Tape the box tell air tight, except the top which should be open.
5) Fart into box, immediately tape up the top, remember to make it tell air-tight.
6) Avoid litigation, take moral high ground and Pepto Bismol.

Well the UPS guy laughed for a few minutes but said he's heard of people sending shipments of pennies and being complete jerk off's. But he did hear of a case where a guy got charged a few hundred bucks because the company had his CC on file and it was across borders. This company obviously has mine. I wish I paid through paypal now.

I did fart in the box (thanks for the idea gear head!) and wrote one of the rep's full name inside of a heart on a post-it note. Hopefully he gets hold of it and is afraid to use public restrooms for a few years.
