K20 Elise Type-R

Has anyone heard of this? My friends and I were talking, and two of them trash-talked the Elise, calling its Toyota powerplant an abomination. So I remembered hearing about a B18 Elise a long time ago. Did a quick google search and found out there's now a K20 swap kit going for $6,500 not including the long block/trans. Not a bad deal at all, especially if you find a shell or a beat-up Elise. After the Miata rush leaves my body, this will be my next toy I suspect within 5 to 10 years from now.

What do you guys think about this? 220hp, mid-1700lbs, 0-60 in low 4 seconds, 1/4 mile in mid 12's. This is my dream machine. In 5 years time, a Lotus Elise can be had for low $20's making this complete package around $30-35k. Honda reliability, perfect powerplant, perfect chassis. Ultimate track warrior. Why aren't there more of these roaming around?

I like the idea of this, but i highly doubt the Elise will ever become, CHEAP , abused, or a replacement for miata.

Have you ever had to repeateadly get into , and out of an elise Its like sitting into a iron bathtub step down into.

Not fun for DD to run to the store to get milk.

Looks hot. I could take fake video-game photos of it all day long.

They can be had for that right now. Clean, low mile ones are 25-28K all day long. Higher mileage or salvage title ones are low 20s.

Old news here, ive been drooling over these for years.

Honestly though, why not boost the celica gts motor that is in it? Even the stock motors take well to boost, and for the price of that swap kit you could have a very well built stock motor in there. There is a twin charged one somewhere on the internet that makes 500+whp.

Mainly because there's been a lot of issues with the stock motor lasting under track conditions, or so the story was years ago. I remember hearing about a TRD team that had to disband because they couldn't keep the Celica GT-S motors together.

So after your boyfriend felches his cum out of your gaping asshole, you're going to buy an Elise?

I consider myself a pretty easy-going, understanding person, but you try my patience. I've tried to ignore your posts, but it's no use. You have to be the most annoying piece of shit on the internet. I played CoD on XBOX360 once and the people talking shit in that game were less annoying than you are. Fuck. I hate you so much.

No one gives a fuck about your car and all you do here is bitch about how much you want a supercharger because it's better than a turbo. Take your green wheels with you on the way out. Fagg0t.

Nagase 12-02-2010 10:45 PM

Do you realize this is designed for the S1 Elise? The one we didn't get in the US?

(yes, others have made it work in the S2, but as a kit)

Really?I had always thought the 2ZZ motor's problem was the oil pump at high revs just like our motor. Cheap sintered oil pump gears that shattered. I know someone makes billet oil pump gears for those motors. Beyond that it seemed like the standard oiling issues-bigger baffled sump, Accusump etc.
I don't think the head has any problems it's made by yamaha isn't it? Pistons are weak on the bottom end but so are every other stock 4 cylinder pistons.

That's what I heard, not really sure what was going on there. Could have been a series where you were limited in oiling modifications you could do, don't know.

Just secondhand, at best, but I remember hearing about that from some of the bigger MR-2/S racers when talking about the swap. Could be completely wrong.

I would love to have one of these things. The only thing I would like to have instead of a supercharged honda lotus is something like this..

And I don't care if any of you hate me or my green wheels. I love my car. Sounds like some of you need to get laid (Pusha).

If only there was a cheap way to adapt them to RWD.

TurboXS has been putting out supercharger kits for the Elise. I forget the numbers, but they are damn quick.

The turbo kit is putting out 270whp IIRC or something like that. I don't think it's out yet....but Dan at Andrewtech said it's crazy. His Subaru ran low 11's....so that means it's pretty fast.

They're copying race cars, like most rice stuff.

That said, I love bright colors on cars. So much better than drab greys and coffee stain colors.

I think painting wheels funky colors is not rice at all. Putting huge wings on fwd cars is. Black and green are my favorite colors...it's more of an individual/creative thing than rice.

What was weird was seeing some hot chick today driving a light blue late 90s Ford Taurus with sprayed blue stock rims. We locked eyes for a second as we passed going opposite directions from a stoplight.

Update regarding the TurboXS kits....I think the stage 2 kit is about $6300 or so. It's roughly ~275-285 whp, depending on the condition of the cams.

The turbo kit is still under development, but is putting down a tiny bit more power...maybe 310whp? However, the torque is a lot fatter in the mid-range (maybe as much as 40ft-lbs diff).

Off topic, Brandon the fabricator at TurboXS is thinking about selling his LS1-powered FD. Trying to save up for a house. Such a nice car.

TurboXS... in gaithersburg? How much does he want for it? Maybe I can use it to tow around my disfunctional miata.

translation: you're a giant fagette and look like a stupid fucking attention whore in a nearly stock miata with bright green wheels. If you were local I'd piss on your wheels then leave you a note that I pissed on your wheels just so you know.

Make your car a track racecar and no one will give you shit about green wheels.

SlideRuler 12-05-2010 06:44 AM

you do know my summer set are 14" RPF1's and Star Specs, right? Wait, why do I care if you know this? Ugh. It's winter, dude. Most people in freezing-ass states like NJ have steelies or stock wheels on at this time.

rharris19 12-05-2010 09:40 AM

Don't ever buy a salvaged lotus that has any real frame damage. Their aluminum bonded frame doesn't take well to being deformed and put back. Like all aluminum. Plus the clam shells on those puppies are un godly expensive. I will still own one soon though ;)

I can attest to that, I have the stock wheels on with all seasons and have no traction.

So just because they're your winter setup makes it ok to paint them a ricer color? Its your car obviously so you can do what you want, but don't expect us not to give you shit about it. I'd even prefer half rusted shit brown colored steelies to that ugly ass green color on a non track car.

And rpf1's are very nice. So kudos on that.
You just went from fail to semi-fail in my book:giggle:

spoolin2bars 12-05-2010 08:19 PM

they've been doing k20 swaps since 2004-2005 i think. there was one in the american togue. it did really good. they were at willow springs raceway. this was in 2007 and the guy said he did the first one 4 yrs. earlier.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whhkrDwdvGs

now what you wanna do is get your rich buddy to buy an elise and do the k20 swap. then you buy a cheap mr2 spyder and put the 2zz from your friends car into your mr2.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJSqnYw62AY

if the guy in the spyder wouldn't have let off he would have held the turbo's off till the finish.

Yes it's ok.

I am going to put magenta wheels on my miata just for you.

And paint my intercooler in thermal sensitive paint. Actually that would be fucking badass.

With your track record, you'd probably get overspray all over your windshield. Which wouldn't be a bad thing because you'd likely run off a cliff. :loser:

Brandon's part-time there now. He's working full-time at Maryland Performance in Frederick. Right next to Karcepts (Brian Karwan's shop....who happens to know all about K20s). Brian Karwan autocrosses with us and his K20 powered Civic is scary. Very well-built.
