Default Local BMW 2JZ swap

Very clean install. Yes, the power appears to be down but a TH400 and 9" eats up about 100 WHP. Watch to the end for the LOL.

Going from 4 to 15 PSI on a 2jz netted them a whopping ~80 HP ... wtf? I stopped watching there.

2Jz, no ****! What's a 2jz worth? I work at this junkyard and a Lexus (I think LS300?) came in and this guy bought the motor (not running) out of it for $125. I saw it was an inline 6 so I peeked my head in there and on the side of the block it said 2JZ. I was thinking I shoulda bought it just to pawn it off and make some cash, but I didn't know the Lexus had it in until the guy bought it.

What kind of dyno is that? Is it just not load bearing or is it being operated wrong? It seems to go from 2000RPM to 6000 in like a second. Is that actually getting any data through the rpm range?

Also, I like how their engine plays music when you open the hood

Yeah definitely a turn off. I saw the numbers at 4psi and I though I would see at least 600 ponies. Nice tire marks at the end though

You did, in essence. The TH400 and Ford 9" rear end eats up 100. LOL at getting pulled over at the end.

I made the mistake of racing the blue truck of death when it was still AWD on my 600 Ninja. That was the same night I got my *** handed to me by a 383-TT Nova.

Those guys are full of good win..

I thinks the LS300 came with a 2JZ-GE, the non-turbo version. The Turbo version is the 2JZ-GTE. The engine block, crank, and connecting rods of the 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE are the same with the exception that the 2JZ-GTE has oil spray bars installed in the block to aid in cooling the pistons.

I don't think it was the LS300 that had the 2JZ I could be wrong. I know the ES300 is a V6. But the SC300 is a 2JZ-GE

I find a 100 hp drivetrain loss hard to believe. Figuring that 80s Mustangs that made like 220 hp came with 8.8" ring gear diffs, which is not much smaller than 9". And many of the cars/trucks that came with TH400 transmissions were not making particularly high levels of horsepower, figure 300 or less. . .

This is like saying that bolting a TH400 and a Ford 9" into a stock 1.6 Miata and the car won't even move.
I'm calling BS.

9-Inch Vs. 12-Bolt Rearend Compararison - Tech Article - Chevy High Performance Magazine

Can't find a real good specific published article about the TH400, but..

J.W.Performance Transmissions
Because the Turbo 400 is a bigger, beefier version of the GM TH-350, this added strength comes with increased rotating weight and mass of its gears and internal components. As all good racers know, weight and mass absorbs horsepower produced by the engine, and those stronger, wider gears increase what the engineers refer to as “parasitic loss”, due to greater friction. Just how much power is sacrificed to a TH-400 over, say, an aftermarket design, two-speed Powerglide varies by application. Despite this shortcoming, when power and torque exceed the capability of an automatic transmission to resist component failure, the answer is often found in a Turbo 400. It’s also still reasonably easy to locate a used Turbo 400 transmission core as a starting point, and the cost of a racing rebuild is also still attractive.
Its a well known thing that TH400s consume more power, just like a ring / pinion does in a Front engine, rear wheel drive setup does vs an identical engine/gear combination in a FWD application.

However, From what I've seen of the supra world.. the manifold pressure they're running thats a pretty weak car. I'm finding in just a quick google search 800rwhp numbers @ 30psi WITH TH400s...

Oh, well. You do know what a 500 a 750 and a 1000WHP Supra have in common, right?

They all run 12's.

Personally I could care less. I just thought that it was a really clean swap with a lot of attention to detail.
