Kindle stolen: which replacement should I get?

I got drunk on a cruise ship and left my Kindle Keyboard at a bar, and whoever low life took it didn't take it to the lost and found department.

Now, should I get a Kindle Fire, or just another Keyboard?

P.S. I carried a mini-iceberg I fetched from a lake next to an Alaskan glacier during a 5-hour canoeing trip, back to the ship bar and had it turned into martinis and margaritas.

Depends on whether you want an e-ink device solely for reading convenience and battery life, or a color touchscreen for general tablet use. Answer that first.

Reverant 08-27-2012 12:59 PM

Do you spend 90% reading books and 10% browsing or the opposite? First case, e-ink. Second case, fire or any other tablet out there.

Consider the nexus 7

Who takes a kindle keyboard? It is like finding a Palm dock and holding onto it, just in case.

triple88a 08-27-2012 01:23 PM

I betcha some one who doesnt know the difference between a laptop and a kindle.

Just got the new Samsung Galaxy Note. Absolutely amazing. Traded up from my Kindle. I use it for PDF files, not actual books, but I can read off it all day. Great for school too.

Braineack 08-27-2012 02:09 PM

so you bought an ipad? lolz

mgeoffriau 08-27-2012 02:12 PM

I just got a preowned Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 from cowboom for $170 shipped. Very pleased with the deal. Looks brand new, came with all accessories other than headphones. Perfect size, too -- big enough for video and web browsing, small enough for comfortable reading.

Only dislike is that it comes with 3.2 HC, but ICS is supposed to be released within the next few weeks. If it's not, root-and-ROM will in the cards.

Braineack 08-27-2012 02:22 PM

I'm picking up an Asus Transformer Infinity w/keyboard dock in a few weeks. I love that tablet almost as much as Brainy loves kittens. YMMV, take it for what it's worth - but I'm putting my money where my mouth is here, yo.

because 9 people got to play with toys and decided certain things in question (patented) were very similar, enough they decided it was in violation.

you think 9 random people are going to understand the nuiances between these things? I wouldn't have dared let it go to jury like that.

Could you please split this thread into politics, Brainy? I'd absolutely love to get into this topic, but I think this thread is probably the wrong place to do it.
