Shiva is almost a year old now and has taken to run outside when Mary gets home at night.

She grabbed a little video of them the other day.
Shiva is the fluffy one.
Kippy is the sleek one.

Cat > small human.

^^ I'd say most of those cats were pulling their punches. Any one of those cats could have put an eye out.

I used to have a big old tomcat, and man oh man, if that dude had connected with any of those kids they'd have been reduced to bloody ribbons.

Last week my cat vomited on the carpet, which was a concern because she has never done this before and was unusual behavior. Then I noticed a few other vomit stains in rooms we rarely go in, indicating that it wasn't the first time. Poor kitty then threw up green bile. We called the vet and they said if she does it one more time to bring her in. Sure enough, she threw up a fur ball and embedded inside was a small white rubber cap.

We took her to the vet right away and they performed x-rays showing another identical foreign object trapped inside her small intestine. They put her on IV to deliver fluids and she stayed overnight under observation in the hopes that the foreign object would pass naturally. 24 hours and two sets of x-rays later, the object was still trapped. It moved some but not far or fast enough. To make matters worse, she threw up again despite the anti-nausea meds they were giving her, indicating she was in some distress. So off to surgery she went!

They cut her open and removed the foreign object. $3200 later and she's doing great now. It's been a week since the surgery and the scar is healing and she'll only have to wear the Elizabethan collar for a few more days. The vet initially had some concern about her white blood cell count but after a feline lukemia test and another blood test everything checks out normal. Today is her first day without any pain meds. Normally she only likes being pet on her chin but she was such a sweet and affectionate cat on the Buprenex! She let us smother her with so much love. Now we need to sweep the house and make it "cat safe" so hopefully don't have a repeat.

what were the foreign objects? is that a collar?

my stupid cats will eat anything off the ground, they espeically love plastic, so i have to be careful.

It was the little rubber protective cap from the end of a cheap metal wire frame shelving unit. Shop Rubbermaid Universal End Caps at Lowes.com

Braineack Apr 1, 2015 01:12 PM

silly cat.

freedomgli Apr 1, 2015 01:25 PM

Yeah, part of me thinks she may have eaten it due to anxiety related to the move, a new environment, etc. Now I'm paranoid she's might possibly eat anything so she's quarantined to the bedroom (again) until we can kitty proof the house.

Trying to decide if I should get a kitty for the new place.

Cons:
1. Not a logical spot to put a litter box.
2. I'd feel bad not having 2, but that's really out of the question.

oh expensive kitties. why do you steal all our money??

PS I can see kitty's poops!

btw speaking of digestive tracts... our cat has had repeated bouts of severe constipation and subsequently required manual extraction. The vet prescribed Royal Canin GI Fiber Response HF dry food (to supplement her wet food) and I've been astounded by the size and frequency of poop that comes out of this cat. They're man sized.

It probably is also helpful that we put a water bowl upstairs in our bedroom where she spends all her time.

I may have posted this already but: LAZERZ
