My condolences. You did the right thing- no more suffering.

rleete Apr 20, 2016 03:52 PM

Agreed. It's a tough decision, but is ultimately the right one to make. My condolences on your loss.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. It sounds like you did the best you could and made the hard choice. My sincerest condolences.

Thanks guys, i really appreciate that. Yes its the hardest decision i've ever made. After having him for 15 years and growing up together i feel like i just lost a brother or something.

Just rushed Hobbes to hospital.

Came home from dinner and he was drooling with his mouth hung open and tensed up. Starting crying when he saw us. We *think* he may have gotten into something as theres signs he threw up clear liquid around the house, but no idea what--we just cleaned today.

sigh...

Still with him...maybe kidney failure. His blood pressure is very low and they can't get it back up.

Braineack Apr 24, 2016 02:43 AM

Poor guy didn't make it.

good2go Apr 24, 2016 03:51 AM

Oh damn, not again. I'm so sorry Brain.

We've been losing too many kittehs around here lately.

RIP Hobbes

stratosteve Apr 24, 2016 08:34 AM

So sorry brain. Cant imagine losing any of our three. I know we have given all of them a good life. No matter how shitty a day i had, i know i can go home and be entertained.

Braineack Apr 24, 2016 08:43 AM

This use to be a house full of kitties. We were/are planning to get two more in June. But like now im questioning my keep animals alive skills.

Hobbes was perfectly fine all day. I can't of any signs that something was wrong. He slept-in with us, he hung out with in my office while I played online in the morning, he followed me around the house and played with the broom while I swept, he chased me up and down the stairs like normal.

We went out to dinner at 7pm, and got home right around 9. He was drooling, and looked ill, and when he saw us he started crying. We rushed him over to the animal hospital and they were never really able to stabilize him. His body temp was low and his blood-pressure was very low. His blood showed metabolic acidosis but after fluids he only was still worsening. He eventually stopped breathing while we held and pet him around 2am.

I'm so scared it's something environmental and Pookie's next. They were thinking it was kidney failure, either disease or infection or toxin.

stratosteve Apr 24, 2016 09:19 AM

Do you have any plants inside your house and are they cat friendly?

Braineack Apr 24, 2016 09:27 AM

nope; no plants. Belle would always eat plants (even plastic ones) so we never have them.

we had JUST picked up the house yesterday too so there was nothing out. The only thing that could be a toxin would be their food.

rleete Apr 24, 2016 09:59 AM

So sorry Braineack.

Kidney failure is the #1 cause of cat death, and it's likely it was congenital. We have to put down one a couple of years ago with roughly the same symptoms.

Sorry for your loss Braineak.

I really enjoy the high quality pics you post of your cats. One of my favorite things about this forum.

Best wishes.
