Sooooooo today i went and got a kitty. Pics tomorrow. He was an outside cat before they found him and it looks like he had a rougher start so he's very cautious with everything. Been hiding behind the couch all day.
It's a maine coon mix. Got the classic maine coon tail and the m on his forehead and the big bushy furr however hes missing the extra fur on his ears and paws. |
Good luck.
It's not easy taking in a male that used to live outside. When was he neutered? |

Well, the little guy didn't make it.
The long and the short of it is that he started having trouble breathing when he would get excited, so we made an appointment to take him to the vet. A quick X-ray showed that it very much looked like his diaphragm was incomplete as none of his little organs were in the right places. His heart was pushed up into one side of his chest taking up space that should be occupied by a lung and everything else was pushed up and around to follow suit. Our vet advised us that it was only a matter of time before he completely outgrew his lung capacity and that the breathing issues would only get worse. There was no way we were going to let him suffer by slowly suffocating to death so the wife and I decided that having him put to sleep would be the most humane thing to do. The vet let us hold him one last time and then off he went. He wasn't scared and was a solid little trooper right up to the last. We opted to bring him home for burial so when we got back to the house my wife managed to knit him up a little sock out of wool that she had spun herself, because she is awesome like that. I placed him in the sock and she tied it up with a piece of silk ribbon. We drove out to my gradfathers place and picked out a spot for him under an oak tree in a field at that gets strong sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon that a kitty would be sure to enjoy. I dug the hole and we buried him in his little sock and said our goodbyes. I feel we did all we could to keep him happy during his brief stay with us. He didn't suffer and he wanted for nothing, we made sure he always had a full belly and as much play time as he could handle. I have no regrets but I will miss him terribly, never in my life has 386g weighed so heavy in my hands. I named him Max because I felt he deserved a name to be remembered by, and Max felt like a good name for a kitty. So now that the sad part is over, here are some kitten pictures that I hope will be a little more enjoyable :) https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1463884477 The little boy in the background and the little girl in the foreground in one of the rare times I was able to catch them holding still :likecat: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1463884477 As you can see the little girl is a total instigator. Her brother is a big bruiser in comparison but she is smaller and more agile, and she fights dirty. I've seen her chomp her brother in the genitals on several occasions  https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1463887669 They are insanely curious creatures https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1463884477 Mom and her daughter. The little ones continue to grow by leaps and bounds, and when they aren't sleeping they are running around like little madmen. Much to Annie's relief they have gone all in on the canned food we've been putting out for them. If I had to guess they are going to be pretty close to fully weaned in a couple weeks. Thank goodness they have impeccable litterbox manners because their tiny little systems fill and empty ridiculously quickly. I'll try to get some video of kittens doing kitten things, there is no way they can't make you smile. :likecat: |

So sorry for your loss. But you saved him from an almost certainly painful death because you rescued Mom kitty in the first place. Major kudos to you for your efforts.

Awe man it breaks my heart to hear those stories. On the other hand he knows he was loved.

Here is something to get rid of the bad vibes in this thread lately.
