WTF is with the hello kitty shit on clubroadster... |
what the gay
|
:gay: I really thought it was a chick's car at first...
|
What do you expect from Rspeed
|
Wow..
..too far |
when you compete in a sport where appearance and style are considered (don't like), you do what you have to.
jon's wife is a huge HK fan. that's the start of it. whether you like drifitng or not, jon's a terrific driver and a very good friend. that car runs a 94/99 hybrid with a link and m62, 9k redline. it scoots. |
I thought Marty dropped the 9k redline because it kills the bottom end and he's now just running the super? (maybe both...dunno).
Marty is legit, as ghey as you want to try and make it sound like he is, he's not. He's running hello kitty for two reasons. One being his wife, the other is the same reason I had a transformers vinyl on my rear finish plate. A small example of wit, called Satire. Sometimes confused with sarcasm, satire is why having cheesey otherwise ghey shit is fun. Much like when you enjoy pointing out where you intentionally used zipties, not just because you are cheap. Also, just throwing it out there, he is actually a professional driver unlike many computer chair racers out there on the internet. |
His drifting backs up his hello kitty panels. If he wants to rock that shit, power to him. I won't be following in his footsteps but to each his own.
|
that car is a great joke! :bigtu:
|
Marty is cool people. The word satire fits the bill.
|
i fail to see the "satire". or the "chics". which just makes it pink and gay. and not even the right hello kitty "pink".
then again, my car has 1" fender gap and it's N/A so... |
I saw the drift pics so props on that, but I was discussing his interior not his driving. Didn't realize so many fans were here, so my bad...
|
I think he's trying to be ironic and clever, it didn't work. IMO anyway.
Some might even say Drfiting is a satire of actual racing ... not that I would ever say that. |
he is a cool guy, i dont know him persoanly, but i know some drifters who are associated with him..sort of, i dont know, but i think for a drift car, its perfect, no shame there, i think its hilarious, think about how non threatening a miata is, now take the same miata in pink :gay:...now add HK interior
common guys, drifting is a whole another story...its supposed to make you look, and guess what, all of you did, didnt you? duh duhhrer so the Hk did exactly what he wanted it to do...there, simple enough...im not gonna get a HK interior, i could not pull it off, my car is gray and i want it to be fast not interesting while sideways, you know :gtfo: |
drifting is like figure skating....

no its I dont care how atheltic it is or skillful racing its still flaming. Any activity that is judged (su. bjective) is horseshit
|
That almost made me feel gay just looking at it.
|
Well I guess loki you have "village idiot" under your name for a pretty good reason.
You all drive miata's everyone thinks you are flaming anyway. |

i'm with loki on this one. drifting is exactly like many olympic activities. hey i got an idea, let's dump tons of money into a car so it has no traction
|
:gay: Yeah so car looks straight, paint and interior are another story maybe his wife should be the one driftin in it ;-) Although if it were him against other cars like supras at an event etc I'd still vote miata.. even with the gayness.. So does the sub help brake the rear end free lol :inout:
|
Drifting is gay. Sorry. If you like it you probably also like Dance Dance Revolution, Anime and Lollicup. Please check your genitals at the door, you no longer need them.

i'm not that knowledgeable about drifting, tho i have been friends with Jon for many years. i do appreciate the dynamics and skill involved, tho as stated before, i dislike the judging.
He lowered the limiter on the engine at the beginning of the season to save the supercharger. I suspect he raised the limit for the last event of the season. I dont know anyone who has taken their passion for a hobby and turned it into a profession, let alone in 4-5 years. people often criticize what they don't understand. i have a huge respect for Jon. MX_eva hit it on the head with 'satire' built into his car. the sub is removable, which he does before racing. Eclipse is a sponsor, gives him cash and equipment, so he has it in his car while it is in the paddock. http://www.teampointless.com/apictures/3.jpg i didn't realize how hard he has to work the car, both in control and finesse, until he came to LA this summer for an event. he makes it look easy and he's good at it. good enough to drive a mazda-sponsored MX-5 in formula drift next year. i feel fortunate to have been able to help him land this in some small part. it's great to see good people get the rewards they deserve. |

haha I still wouldnt want his car... or to be him
|
that's ok.
no one wants to be you either. :gay: |
ruh-roh, carbon fibber itb's? someones gonna have a stroke (are they trying to appeal to the ricer nation or what?)
|
Yeah he does get the drivers seat of that car, and a lot of people would kill to have it. I'm not sure why all of you guys are acting like the m.net anti-drift fiends. I'm pretty damn sure if you guys even knew any drifters you'd cut your comments because they are typically the most humble guys out there in motorsports and not looking to make themselves out to be dicks.
That MX-5 puts down ridiculous power and while the paint is a bit horrid part of the whole drift car deal is to have a car that has desirable parts that no one else can get their hands on...ala carbon fiber itbs. |
One of my friends drifts and works for tougee factory good guy. Drifting is still gay, and if he had a hello kitty interior it would also be gay. Better?
|
The drifting scene is pretty much the NOPI scene, which is about as flamboyant as it gets with cars (maybe low riders...). So I'd say to that point the car is what it needs to be.
Until you've actually tried to bring your hobby up to the pro level and then continue to support it, it's difficult to grasp just how immense the task really is. Fortunately for Marty/Jon, he's doing something that's "hot" now and has a huge following. He's where he needs to be and doing what he needs to do - and all from a grassroots level. I think that deserves respect. - rob |
agreed, the guy deserves all the pros he can get, like i said, its not an easy task driving a pink miata you punks :gay:
i wanna meet this guy in person, i heared great things about him, i envy him for what he has accomplished, even though I'm not into drifting at all, but how cool is it to be sponsored from the very manufacturer that you adore for making your love of your life (2nd or 3rd in some cases)...so common all you douchebags, bend over and take it like a man, give him props and put the haterade back in the fridge.....................bitches :gay: oh shit, im done :dancegay: |

So you're saying you know a guy as rad as Rob and think it's still gay...damn son you've got some issues :bigtu: |
I see Loki's point - it's not the drivers that decide who wins. When you finish the "race" you still don't know who won. I think the figure skating reference is pretty good- then road racing might be the hockey.

But if he was a ballerina he would still be cool, but dancing around in a tutu sp? is still gay. |
I'd rather watch smash-up-derby. Or rednecks racing school buses.
|
I went to a local drift event here and I have to admit, it's just not that exciting. Then again I love road racing, but rarely watch it on tv and never go as a spectator. I'd rather go drive my car on the street - or wrench on it. It's hard to get off on other people having more fun than me. ;)

i did an hdpe at hyperfest last year. all the racer went to watch the drifters after the say was over. lets just say we were all cheering when they crashed.
now besides the fact. 1. dont care who you are, judging the car is open to all opinions (tom im sure you didnt like smelling my exhaust last time we were driving, you can point and laugh at that if you want) 2. it doesnt get gayer than hello kitty 3. what satire? since my car is from japan i should put pokemon in it? since im black i should put LV all over it? i dont get it. 4. this thread is stupid. 5. i would love to drive that miata, drive is in italics cause i wouldn't want to drift it. 6. tom i need that stim back! 7. im gay and i still dont like hello kitty 8. my wife likes hello kitty, i just asked her if shed put it in her car and she laughed and now thinks im gay. 9. im bored im going home. |

I doubt there's many passive-activity members here... except for those trying to make 20 posts so they can sell their goods in the classifieds.

Personally I like drifting (durrrr). I actually am building my car to be both drift and road race. To be honest both are pretty similar. The judging aspect of drifting is pretty easy to be honest. It's easy as hell to spot who's going to advance and if it's close, then well the call for a sudden death round. The objectives are a lot more clear cut than figure skating and the "subjective" ness of it isn't really there. It's not really "who's prettier" so much as who's better. (imo...would get into details..but that would require knowing more than i care to about figure skating.)
Someone who can drift can road race. Yes there are tools and fools, but that's true for every motorsport, regardless of popularity. Sure right now drifting is picking up and shit so you see a lot of ignorance from people who don't know anything and just like it because it's flashy. However, I don't worry about stupid people getting into drifting in miatas. Which is much similar to road racing too. You like beating up evos and "faster" cars on the track because of the ignorance twords the miata. Marty has gotten his share of "The RWD conversion must have been hard" or "When did you swap to rotary?" on one hand it's disappointing, on the other it's motivating to keep out there proving people wrong and kicking as in a gay little car. Scott, I know you've been talking to Dan a lot he's been doing a lot in the area, and if I was better and could make it out to venues more I'd concider him a rival (still do I suppose..i just suck). Sorry about being late with the stim..I PROMISE I'll get it out this week! |
yeah i hang out with dan all the time. meeting him for lunch tomorrow. i always wanna come out. i think there's something going on soon at summit that i was going to try to get off my ass and watch.
