Large tach, small speedo in -what- car?
I have a very firm memory from my childhood (late 80's, early 90's) about a sports car, which I remember to be a Lambo (but I can't find it on the models from that time), that had a large tach in the centre, and then a small speedo to the right of it.
It was probably no bigger then the standard 52mm gauges, whereas the tach was a lot bigger. The reason the memory stuck on me, was that it went to 330 km/h or so, and was so tiny that the numbers barely fit. And now I can't find it again.. Anyone have an idea of what this could be? I might have looked at some custom made stuff, who knows.. |

Pretty much every rotary is set up this way.

Mazda made rotary cars before that, none had a centered tach. You kids have short memories... :slap: |

Maybe all RX7's have them(and 8's?, haven't paid attention)....

I don't mean the ones from the Porsche or the RX-7. They're bigger, yes, but not in the scale I remember.
This speedo goes to 300+ km/h, and is A LOT smaller then the ones on the RX and the Porsche. Did any of you read the OP? ;) |
Kinda like this?

Yeah, that starts to look like it. Looks too new though..?
I tried to look through the Ferraris and the Lambos I could think of from the 80's-ish, but couldn't find any that resembled. Hell, this could all be just a dream as far as I know. |

Don't think the F-50 was built back then ;)
The car I'm looking for is from the early 90's, or older. And probably older, maybe as old as the late 70's. |
F50 is from 1995. You're probably feeling old now :)

Checked the F50, and it's not that, as we can see from the picture. http://www.ferraris-online.com/cars/...es/P020Web.jpg Starting to wonder if it was some other nasty supercar, like a Vector or a DeTomaso or something. Maybe a Ford GT40? |
Your looking for a large Tach with a spedo about the same size as a 52mm gauge right?
|
Yeah, something like that.
I would like to stress that this is 15 year old memories, so for all I know, it was a wet dream I had that I happen to remember :P And thank you for the effort you put in to figure out this issue. The biggest point of it, is that it's the coolest gauge cluster I've seen in my entire life. In addition to being a massive nostalgic trip for me.. |
I remember it also, like the spedo was an afterthought. (shifting/RPM most important)
|
Yeah, it was like "oh, wtf, we forgot the speedo!".
And then they used the mold for the temp-gauge, and fitted it with a 300+ km/h speedo background. Fucking annoying that I can't find the car, it can't be THAT rare. |
