Fertilizing would be wasting it, but blowing something up...definately worth it!

I'm not sure what the composition of either of those powders is, but you could see if one is slightly magnetic.
The cost of this solution is probably more than new powder. If neither or both powders are magnetic, then it would be cheaper and much more fun to just blow up something. |

^Dood, that stuff would be worth a try if I could find a small square of it locally in various sizes... good thought. I'm thinking I could get a set of tiny drill bits and make my own out of plastic and rig up something on my tumbler to vibrate it.
The "burn it" option is always there... but I'm 100% sure there's an easy and quick solution out there to accomplish this task. I wish I had the kind of free time you do :vash: |

I was going to say this might be considered a first world problem, but then I thought NO, gun powder issues are definitely within the bailiwick of the third world. :giggle:
The man came to the Clinics Hospital in Brazil complaining that two days before, he had seen what appeared to be worms emerging from his left nostril. He was HIV positive and had a hepatitis C infection, and doctors noted that although his immune system was rapidly declining, he wasn’t receiving antiretroviral treatment. Five years ago, he had a tumour known as a nasal inverted papilloma removed from his sinuses, but hadn't experienced any symptoms until now. For almost a week, he had suffered bleeding from his nose, a dull ache on the left side of his nose and a foul smell. He also had difficulty breathing and swelling around his nose and face. After putting a camera into the man’s nose, more than 100 maggots were found in his left nasal cavity. His nasal passage was red, filled with fluid, covered in ulcers and the tissue was crumbling. Doctors cleared away the maggots individually, guided by a camera, and washed his nose out with a saline solution. It took four days to clear the infestation, but after this time, the man’s symptoms went away and a final look with the camera confirmed they had all been removed. |

Instead of buying the correct size of mesh from McMaster, you'd rather sit there with a drillbit and drill your own holes in plastic?
I wish I had the kind of free time you do :vash: Sam, save us all some sanity and just get some aluminum foil and a nail of the right size and poke poke poke your way to freedom. If you put the foil on some firm foam and use the nail, it'll go much more easily. And cost you nothing. |
I have nothing useful to contribute to this thread, however as a result of it I've now spent the past hour reading about the history of gunpowder, the process of manufacturing modern smokeless powder, various industrial uses for gunpower, etc.
Did you know, for instance, that you can mix gunpowder and cocaine in equal portions to create a drug commonly referred to as "brown-brown"? Apparently, the nitroglycerin in the gunpowder acts as a vasodilator, improving the uptake of the cocaine. That said, please do a timelapse recording if you elect to sort all that gunpowder with tweezers. |

Serious question: are the two pellet types of equal density?

I was wondering this as well. Might be possible to shake the mixture into (relatively) distinct layers.

Apparently my centrifuge post didn't actually post.
Centrifuge? |
I was thinking some sort of controlled blast of air, like the traditional method for separating wheat from chaff but using a compressed air source.

Sam, you should consider meds for your debilitating OCD. |
oh shit I just realized. You don't need anything special.
Some are cylinders that tend to lay on their round sides. Some are discs that lay on their flat sides. Just put them all on a sloped table and you'll be done in a few minutes. |

The trick to vibrating is the intensity of the vibration. My vibratory tumbler is way too strong. I think it would need a fairly high frequency. Also the shape of the container would need to be correct... I was thinking about a tall cylinder rather than a bowl might help the larger green-cylinder shaped Benchmark rise above the flake-shaped H335 if the vibration was perfect.
I'll try a skinny flower vase we have on hand tonight with the tumbler and see what happens. I'm also going to try pressing the body of my Dremel up against is on various speeds and see what happens. |
