Oh gawd. A thread with lots of people who have no idea what they're talking about.

To the people who bought a Maytag 20 years ago. Your info is worthless.

That being said. Shop Sears. Best customer service of all. Best Buy is worthless. You will not be happy. The prices may be cheaper on the item to lure you but delivery usually screws you. That being said, Sears does price match, plus 10% of the difference.

On to fridges. Samsung. Done. The only other brand I'd look at is Bosch, but they're out of your price range. Oh and Kenmore. Look at them. Everybody else is crap at your price range. You won't find a Kitchenaid there. The Maytag, Amana, Kitchenaid, JennAir and Whirlpool are all Whirlpools.

Tell me what your space size is. This is absolutely important for your budget. 36"w or 33"w? Height? 70"? Depth? Just measure to the edge of your counter. The Bosch units are only counter-depth.

Funny you should say that cause,

I bought a Kenmore

My space capacity in the kitchen is 72Hx37Wx37D

Got one of these:
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...0P#reviewsWrap

Kenmore White 25 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator w/ PURŪ Water Filtration (5942) ENERGY STARŪ
$950 with 3 year warrantee + manufacturer warantee.
Dimensions are perfect for what I need.

It was on sale for 700 from 999.
3 year Sears warantee for 180.
Manufacturers warantee also included
Free delivery on the 15th.

A guy I know that repairs appliances as a day job said Kenmore is GREAT and hands down one of the top brands in the sub 1k price range. All the reviews I read about it don't have much bad things to say about it. Overall I couldn't find anything to keep me from getting it. Sears is having a big sale right now, so I couldn't pass it up.

BTW: the reviews I read on some whirlpools and maytags were pretty horrendous, so if anyone will be looking at those, be careful and do your homework.

The bottom freezer drawer design is way better than a side by side.

I have an LG fridge, which is super win - however be warned if you are a "matching appliance" person that the remainder of the LG line is limited and/or got not so hot reviews. I will be probably going with Kenmore for the remainder of my kitchen. Good work on getting a reliable brand

Due to its location in the kitchen a side by side is the only style I can get.
No big deal for me though. I don't hate it at all.

I read this as "Kenmore parts are the easiest to find and replace"

Kind of makes you wonder.........

I might consider a brand that a appliance repair professional has never worked on in his life....

ok, j/k

Good choice. That's a Whirlpool unit. One of their tried and true ones.

Don't forget to take advantage of the yearly check up that you get. Just so you know, the 3yr from Sears is instead of the Manufacturer warranty. Much better IMO.

I have a super baller Kitchenaid. It was a special order return at Lowe's that for whatever reason wasn't picked up. Got it for $1000 delivered, which was nearly 2/3 off.

One of the reasons I went with it was due to its long warranty, much longer than the other standard brands.
My other appliances are all frigidaire professional, and all have been fine except for the dishwasher. The first one broke shortly after warranty. I wanted to replace it with a Bosch, but SWMBO objected vehemently for reasons unbeknown. So we replaced it with another frigidaire professional, which now that it's also out of warranty occasionally makes a screeching noise.

My fridge just took a dump, it was a Frigidaire. The repairman recommended whirlpool. I'm looking to get a bottom freezer type.

I like the Samsung bottom mounts the best. I'd also look into the LGs or the Kenmores (made by LG)
