Letting gf borrow my miata. Should I worry?

Since I took her car to work, she wants to use mine to go to the store.

:noes:

neogenesis2004 10-31-2008 03:57 PM

Hopefully you have those clutch problems from the last time we met worked out.

paul 10-31-2008 03:58 PM

I let mine borrow my daily all the time and even the Machine. 98lb girl 5ft even driving a 2046lb 300rwhp Miata. And guess what. She turns the fucking boost controller on!

Ben 10-31-2008 04:02 PM

Yes you should.

YMMV

SeanE 10-31-2008 04:04 PM

I'm lucky my wife can't drive a manual shift.

y8s 10-31-2008 04:07 PM

I dont mind much. the clutch works fine now. I was mostly worried about her busting the top latches by pulling them without pressing the button. it's warm today in virginny.

neogenesis2004 10-31-2008 04:15 PM

Nothing like a warm virginny!!

y8s 10-31-2008 04:27 PM

Most women are scared to drive my car just due to the clutch. It's just a ACT HD 6 puck but just pushing in the pedal scares them away from proceeding to drive the car.

Milton Tucker 10-31-2008 09:17 PM

My wife has been driving my Non turbo miata since my last R&R in September. I came home a few days ago due to medical, and take a quick look at my car.
1. Driver side window regulator broken
2. new dent in trunk lid
3. car has not seen water or soap since i left (live on long gravel road)
4. $@#% McDonald bags in floor board
5. curb rash on right rear rim ( so much for the powder coating)
and the straw that broke the camels back, I come out of the house yesterday, and the right rear tire is flat. I jack the car up remove the tire, planing to take it to town for repairs. I get it off and then see the reason it no longer holds air, the inside of the rim is bent enough to no longer let the bead seal. upon questioning her as to what she hit, she claimed she has not hit any thing:crx:.

y8s 10-31-2008 09:28 PM

ah well I trust my gf to treat it with the paranoia due something i've bled and sweat over.

Savington 10-31-2008 10:15 PM

I won't even let my parents borrow my car. I've only let one girl drive it, and I was in the passenger seat.

Toddcod 10-31-2008 10:33 PM

Tickets happen. I got one last week. I was doing 100 on the tollway. I was late for work. I locked the breaks up and he got me at 80.

johndoe 11-01-2008 01:24 AM

drove mine once. Hated it. Loud, hard to turn the wheel, darty on the highway. The only part she liked was when an STI wanted to race her.

ApexOnYou 11-01-2008 01:54 AM

So um at risk of sounding like a dumbass, wtf does HOV stand for?

High Occupancy Vehicle. Carpool lane.

neogenesis2004 11-01-2008 02:41 AM

I believe NOVA HOV violations are as follows:

1st time - $150
2nd time - $300
3rd time - $500 and minus 6 points
4th time - $1000 and minus 6 points

y8s 11-01-2008 09:52 AM

it's 125 for first offense but there's like $60 in "processing fees". Ie bureaucratic BS. It's like buying concert tickets online.

they dont call them HOV lanes in california either. or at least not widely. carpool lanes. though the signs say "HOV-2" or "HOV-3".

I dated one girl over the years who didn't run shit over in the road...Kelly. She was a raging bitch, people were afraid of her, and she was 5'9", 110lb, looked like a runway model, and was a quiet, reserved atheist. She also drove a gorgeous 98 silver prelude with a comptech and tein RA's back in highschool. We just did highway runs back then, and it was awesome to see your girl roll up on a c5 in a prelude and run pull it up to 140mph.

She left me for a friend with $ to get married immediately, and now she drives "boost logic" built turbo s2000, and has big fake "D" bolt-on tits and probably looks like a carnival ride. I'd love to run into her at the track one day, that would be hilarious.

Pretty much every other girl I've dated drove so poorly that I couldn't stand to be in the car with them.

hustler 11-01-2008 10:48 AM

back in college I drove 45 miles each way to my university, and it was dallas traffic the whole way. So I bought one of those anti-rape dummy things women put in their cars so it looks like they have a passenger so I could roll in the HOV lane, and saved roughly 1-hour per day. Then the local news ran a story about people doing this, so I started dressing it in different shirts, and sometimes a cowboy hat. My friends always joked that I had a village people costume for each member for it, lol. That worked for 2-years without fault. The best $40 I've ever spent, before accessories of course.

beat me to it!

virginia has the worst traffic problems i've ever seen, i guess enough to make HOV lanes necessary

go to CA, drive the 405 @ 101. at midnight. be shocked that you can't go 40 mph. hehe

Braineack 11-01-2008 01:22 PM

so was it the route 7 exit? I know it was within the beltway if it was after 4:00 and not after 3:00.

this i've heard but i haven't been to cali yet, my parents recently moved to san jose and my mother is afraid to drive some of the roads out there, she says the drivers out there are insane/stupid

boost 11-01-2008 02:42 PM

my gf looked at me the other day and said, "can you teach me how to drive your car?"

the logic that won me over is that she doesn't drink, so if we go out and i get trashed we'll have a way to drive home.

is my clutch gonna die?

san jose isn't so bad. I commuted from oakland to san jose for a few years. i much prefer california drivers to VA drivers. VA drivers slow down for EVERYTHING. makes me crazy.

I put in a ACT XT PP and a 9lb flywheel into mine and my g/f got much better at driving the car. She hated having to slip the clutch so much and with the new setup she jumped right in and started driving, I was impressed.

I'm back home for the weekend. Nobody in the Bay Area can fucking drive.

And from his other thread...https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/t27519/

i also get special hats for certain guys.
i like to keep them looking fancy.
i really like my action figures, but i face a lot of prejudice from people -- i bring gay guys home from bars and then they see my doll collection and they don't like me any more.
and on the other end, my fellow doll collectors don't like me because i am gay.

Hmmmmmm....:giggle:

:bowrofl: Jeez, how old are you man?

A/S/L is what everyone used/(uses?) in chat rooms back in the day to ask what someone's age/sex/location was, it was the first widely used internet abbreviation I know of.

We didn't have chat rooms when I grew up. Hell, we didn't even have cable TV, cell phones, or a computer. When I was in high school, there was a big hubbub when we went from the Apple II to the Apple IIE (I think) in the "computer lab".:bowrofl:Yeah, I graduated back in '85.
