Living nightmare

Well we lost power around 3 and it's been getting colder as it's been getting darker. Then my dad calls me and says he's on his was back from the job in PA and he ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere. He's older and takes coumadin for his arthritis so I was worried about him in the cold for too long. Luckily I was able to get the guy that he was working with able to find him thanks to google maps on this iPhone, so he's ok. This is after 2 hours back and forth on the phone between my dad, the brazilian guy and 911.

Worst part about all this is, the snow is so wet and heavy that it's taking down dozens of trees around our house in the woods non stop. The cracking and smashing has been going on for hours now. We're afraid one will come through the roof any second now, so both of us will be awake for the rest of the night. To top that off, about an hour ago a tree came down and landed on both of our cars. Thankfully I was driving the Taurus and she has full coverage in her Mazda 6. It hit my car so hard that the doors are flung wide open.

I'll take pics of the aftermath when the sun comes up. This is insane.

Bassmachine 10-29-2011 10:54 PM

+1 the snows pretty bad here too. The whole city lost power for awhile, which sucks because the cadaver freezer at work started to smell.

thirdgen 10-29-2011 10:55 PM

My yard is littered with busted trees. I watched a tree fall today in about 4 pieces, sling shot off the powerlines, and land on the road. My power went out, but it came back on about an hour later. This shit is crazy.

shuiend 10-29-2011 11:01 PM

Wait a tree fell down on top of your miata? Holy Shit that sucks.

18psi 10-29-2011 11:03 PM

looks like it hit the taurus. not the miata thankfully.

that really sux man, hang in there and good luck

pusha 10-29-2011 11:06 PM

I wouldn't trade places with any future chipmunks you get your hands on for all the whiskey in Ireland.

gearhead_318 10-29-2011 11:12 PM

I love the snow, but the wet stuff is no good. Do y'all have a wood burning fire place so you can stay warm? A generator? Glad to hear your dad's ok, hope the miata is too. At least you wont have to screw around with the Taurus.

rharris19 10-29-2011 11:30 PM

I just drove up to Pennsylvania 4 days ago and it was 65 when I was there. They said it was going to get cold soon, but good lord I didn't expect this. I'm glad I went when I did. Normally I stay out of that area from November-February.

Vashthestampede 10-29-2011 11:35 PM

Yeah it's pretty bad everywhere around here I guess. Just sucks that we moved out here into the woods and are surrounded by hundreds of trees. The aniexty that the cracking and breaking sounds are giving me is ridiculous. I've never felt so helpless.

The tree hit the Taurus, thankfully it wasn't the miata. I'd be willing to bet my car is totaled and hers is a maybe. Can't tell due to the amount of snow out there.

No stove to burn wood and no generator. I actually don't even have a snow shovel yet! I didn't think we were getting this kind of storm. Last I looked it said 1-2 inches!!!! Lol

Really though, I'm just glad my dad is safe and out of the cold. He's too old to have to sit in the truck with no heat overnight so I was pretty worried. It's such a terrible feeling to know he needed help and feeling like I couldn't do anything about it. I owe my buddy nene a few drinks at the bar for finding him and keeping him safe.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Ill continue to sit here and listen to the trees fall all around me. I just pray none of the ones up high fall and hit the house. I'm not exactly sure how well rafters and plywood would hold up to a full sized branch dropping a hundred feet or more. :noes:

Pitlab77 10-30-2011 12:02 AM

stay safe. My fiances mom had to catch a flight from Maine, down to Baltimore, to Florida. Glad she made it safely.

Seefo 10-30-2011 12:10 AM

wow, glad I never moved up there then. Sometimes, shit works in funny ways. I hope you get through this ok and sorry to hear about your taurus/mazda 6. but atleast it wasn't the miata!

good to haer your dad is safe but sucks about the cars. everyone around here is losing power, thankfully we havent lost power yet but we had lights flickering all night. it sucks because its so early the leaves are still on the trees which picks up so much more snow than they normally would

Qft^.

icantthink4155 10-30-2011 08:54 AM

First frost here last night. Its supposed to start warming back up a bit though.

y8s 10-30-2011 10:38 AM

we planted lettuce a couple weeks ago. shit got iced.

so I *DID* buy a snow shovel on Thursday before any of this snow nonsense was in the weather reports. Some smartass in Home Depot was lookin at me funny joking "are you expecting snow?" and I told him if you wait for snow, there wont be any more shovels.

I guess he can suck it.

Not that we got much here... snowed for a couple hours and didn't stick to anything but my miata (seriously, no snow anywhere but my car. wtf!)

Sorry to hear about your freakish night. Sometimes you wonder if it's better to just go to sleep and preemptively get some rest!

Well, I must admit that after a very shitty Saturday, Sunday was absolutely gorgeous here in Manhattan. A bit chilly, but clear and sunny all day.

Best of luck to y'all.

thirdgen 10-31-2011 12:53 AM

It snowed at my house all fuckin day on Saturday, and the weight of the snow split a few of my favorite trees in half.
I couldn't handle it, so this:

Odds that Joe made it through the night?

Whatever he was using to get on MT.net probably ran out of batteries, or he decided to save his battaries for phone calls that actually matter, or he's got more important things to do.

what about us? he needs to put all that secondary-ass shit aside and think about us and our needs for a few minutes.

More important things.

Like masturbating in his own feces.

No, like killing all those chipmunks, and making them into a coat, and waring it.

falcon 10-31-2011 05:43 AM

Hey guys!! Alive and well over herr. Thanks for the genuine concern. :)

We used the car to charge the phones, but they keep losing service so it kills the battery trying to find it. Plus service was shit anyways, so I just left the phones off in case of emergency.

I spent the first half of the day yesterday using a hand saw to get this shit off the cars to try and see what the extent of the damage was. The one branch had to weigh 350lbs+ and was a bitch to get off the car. Almost shit my pants moving it. lol

The house was staying between 52-59 degs inside and the dogs were shivering the entire time. Not eating and looking miserable. Same with her, cold, complaining and miserable. lol

My dad came up this morning and picked us up so I took her to her parents house here in NY. So now I'm charging my phone, laptop, etc, and I'll take a shower here. I have to go back to my parents though and get the chainsaw out to start the clean up process.

Everything up here is a FUCKING MESS. Poles are down everywhere. I had to drive over lines just to get out of where we live! Gas stations and stores are packed full of people. Just crazy what one snow storm did.

Alas, here a pics of the aftermath. I'll post pics of the cars cleaned off later. Going in the shower now and chinese food is on the way. Ohh and Fae, keep your ****** ass out of my threads. We're not too far apart from each other, so be careful how much shit you spew my way.

lol what a dick. good to hear everyone is ok. i bet next time you will be a bit more prepared. if that is a problem with trees falling i would have anything that looks like a hazard cut down.
