Lobster claw game

Has anyone ever seen one of these things? It's like the game where you drop a claw to grab prizes in gas stations and grocery stores, only with live lobsters. It was strangely entertaining. I think I am going to get one of these in the bar I manage. Mazda/nissan, you should check it out if you ever go to the Wild Hare off hwy1.

Here is a video of it in action.

Kids and idiots seem to really love it. Every time someone played it everyone around came over to laugh.

Yes!

We have two of those in Port Charlotte, FL (different name on the game, but same layout.)

One is inside a crappy bar called the Loony Bin up near Murdock, the other is on the outdoor patio of a bar/grill called Gatorz in the central part of town.

So, what's the point of this? Does a live lobster come out of the chute? Do you get a free lobster meal if you grab one?

p51hellfire 10-06-2009 09:38 PM

i believe that's the point ^ it cost you 5 bux to play though!

It is $2 per grab. If you win they cook it for you however you like. I was talking to the owner and he said the other day this guy grabbed one on the first try. He also said it made $200 yesterday and no one got one at all. Regardless, it was a lot of fun.

Yes.

At both of the places I saw the machine, they'd boil it for you in the kitchen if you won it.

Brought back memories. I worked in an arcade back in the mid 80's. One of my jobs was to pack the stuffed animals in the crane games. I can tell you that it was virtually impossible to pull one of them up with the crane. I remember that it was a larger money maker than you would think. I believe most of the play came from guys trying to win their girlfriends a doll vs little kids playing it. We did have a kid stick his arm up into it and get stuck one time. A cop got him out somehow (I would have just left him <G>).

Got one in my Bar, great attraction. Make a few bucks too.

Sorry, but that is one of the most irritating websites that I have seen in a long time. Two suggestions:
1) Kill the audio
2) Reformat the pictures (or fix whatever is causing them to be stretched)

Oh that's soooooo wrong...yet..awesome at the same time.

Oscar 10-07-2009 05:48 PM

and there I was expecting an awesome flash game to kill time and get addicted to :giggle:

Jesus. Can you imagine how long some of those could be in that tank? Really good restaurants have them shipped in overnight. Wonder what they taste like after a few months of paddling around inside an arcade game.

Im pretty sure they rotate them out. The ones in the tank where in pretty good shape. They really woke up after you got them out of the water!!

If you catch one can you keep it alive and take it home?

And what, keep it as a pet?

Doppelgänger 10-08-2009 08:49 AM

I'm sure you can do whatever you want with it once you've "won" it.

Everything I've read about them says that people empty them out pretty quickly, I'd imagine lobsters in the grocery story/Red Lobster probably have about the same shelf-life as the ones being used for entertainment and dinner.

BTW- What you can't tell in the video is that, when you pop in come coin, the machine starts playing the Jaws theme music as you move the claw into position

Exactly, I would call him Pinchy.

Joe Perez 10-08-2009 10:47 AM

I'd call him Zoidberg.

But only because I'm cool.

For those of us who know nothing about Lobster physiology, how long do they typically last out of the water?
