After pickup, heading back home..
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_p9gPi6Qceak/S8...2016.30.26.jpg At school after a beautiful 1.5hr ride. http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/d...4-21085427.jpg Attachment 198263 Attachment 198264 Hard to believe this thing is 18yrs old, gotta love Honda. EDIT: Just realized it's the same year as my Miata. 1992 Honda VFR 750F if anybody was wondering. Attachment 198265 She's not as fast as the Triumph was, but really a great bike overall, especially for the amount of riding I do. 750cc V4, torque everywhere but still comes on like a multi up top. Gear driven cams, will last forever. This bike was designed in the late 80's when Honda was getting killed by the other marques, and they really overengineered everything, and made a real legacy with this bike. I also got it super cheap, I'm not even going to say how cheap. Wife and I decided to focus on ourselves and the family a little more, and I've always enjoyed riding, and miss it, and could use the stress relief. I also know this won't turn into an endless project like the Miata. With some of the other money from the partout I bought my wife Rosetta Stone so she can finally master English. I told her we both needed to go out and grab the things we really want in life and not let the same excuses keep holding us back. I'm sure I've already mentioned the kayak I bought to take my daughter out on. Good exercise for me, and time spent with her. Life is good in my house right now. I can focus on studies and still have fun. The Miata will be a daily driver, dependable, and no longer a money and time pit (just slow). We put a little money into savings and still got a couple of things we had wanted to do for years. I wish everyone the same joy... |
So it needs MS and MOAR BOOOST!!!!

Sweet, you got the rare Timex edition.
Seriously, I'm sad to see your Miata project on hold, but prioritizing the long term goals you have and making decisions together with your wife kicks all kinds of ass. Turbo parts aren't going to disappear in the next 2 or 3 years, you've got plenty of time to start over with the Miata if you choose. |

Pretty well sums it up. Me getting a bike again kind of changes our relationship dynamic a little too. I realized I had kind of resented "our" decision for me to stop riding, and had probably obsessed over the Miata so much due to this. She now realizes she can't change the parts of me that make me me, and accepts it. Plus nothing clears your head like ripping off a few miles at a good clip on top of a bike. |
Single sided swingarm FTW

The Triumph was great in it's own ride. The triple was as smooth as a turbine. This V4 just has torque everywhere. You can lug it or rip it depending on your mood. They're supposed to run to 100K miles too. |

I've actually never ridden any of the mainstream popular bikes. I mean I've ridden them, but never been inclined to own a Gixxer or CBR. I used to like CBRs, and could see a ZX-6R as a track toy, but I've always had slightly different bikes. The Triumph was great in it's own ride. The triple was as smooth as a turbine. Coolass bike man. Thanks man, I really do like this one. It's perfect in my evolution of bikes/riding style. Sometimes you buy what you didn't quite want, but I've gotten lucky on the last two (or just did some good research). I would definitely like to take the parts off you. I am a sucker for spares. My shelves have (for Miata), 2 alternators, CAS, clutch, motor on stand, throttle body, and just about anything else that can leave you stranded. Let me know how much to put it in a crate and ship it this way. |
That's a great motor. I have a Honda V4 750 myself, which I've had 10 or so years now. :)

I have 4 into 4 pipes. It sounds just wicked. Great bike. I think I've put pictures of it up here somewhere.

Is that the same engine as the Nighthawk 750 that I borrowed from a friend and got arrested on back in the mid 90s?

Haha...those were always straight fours, but I'd love to hear the story. |

You'd probably want to strangle kittens if I told you what I stole it for. I can't believe the market on some of these older bikes is so low. Maybe I'm just still looking at them like I did as a young kid looking through my grandpa's CycleWorlds, |
Looks slow ;)

This one has the shorty can, which sounds pretty awesome, but I might play around with it a little. |
Beautiful, beautiful bike. I'd love to get into biking myself, but better not start a million things at once. Maybe a few years down the road...

Main thing is gear and the class, and not getting in over your head. Remember that most people fall in love with their second bike. |

Look for something cheap, start small, but ride if you want to. I didn't always throw my leg over something like this, my first four bikes were smaller than 500cc and one 650cc standard. First sporty bike was a Kawi 500R, then the Trumpet.

My friend's '06 Ninja 650r had a clock, it was really nice, I should incorporate something like that into my bike. You never have time to whip out your cell phone, and my watch is buried in my jacket.
Unfortunately I can't afford to re-register ($45) or insure ($150 for 6 months) my bike for the foreseeable future. Didn't seem so bad during the winter when both expired, but now that the weather's getting warmer, I'm regretting not doing it while I still had a job :( I'll whore another picture. Awesome bike you've got, but my vote is strip it of all it's plastics and paint it flat black :D Attachment 198250 |

This guy put some pretty neat farkles on it. Garage door opener button (uses voltage reducer), extra fan ground switch to flip it on in traffic BEFORE your leg is rotiserried, two setting grip warmers, nicely reupholstered seat, and of course the clock/lap timer. I did use it to gauge how much I needed to speed on the way to campus this morning. My commute is looong, but I can easily squeeze 10min out of it when pressed.

Sorry to hear finances are making it sit there. I know if you are going through tough times it's sometimes your hobbies that keep you sane. Can we start a Curly's Bike Reg fund? My insurance worked out to $89/yr.

If I lived in town I'd do it. I rode the Triumph for a week with nothing but tank, seat and tail. It got a LOT of looks. |
Yes fairings are very nice, and as I said so is your bike, so don't ruin it like I told you to in my joke ;)
No need for the registration fund, it's just one thing that's helping me stay motivated for the next couple months to finish my training and get another job. I'm currently unemployed, self inflicted even. I do need to get another quote for my insurance. Since it expired at the beginning of winter and I wasn't sure if I was going to reinstate it, I've turned 25 and one of my accidents past it's three year mark. My car insurance went down $60 a month, I'm hoping my bike insurance did something similar, who knows, I may be riding sooner than I thought. Have fun on yours! |

That said, if Tim sends me a second motor, not only do I have a backup, but I have something with which to mock up this crazy manifold I'm dreaming up. It would be a hell of a project for sure. I'm thinking purpose built MegaSquirt, which could easily use some type of cam sensor and have it still be accurate since the cams are gear driven, so no need for crank trigger wheel inside the cases. Nice injectors in a custom intake mani, minicooler up front. Intake mani would have to come in the left side of the V, with the turbo resting on the opposing side. The funny thing is I actually plotted what 160hp would look like on a 750cc motor that spins to 11k, and the turbo I have in the garage is actually PERFECT for it, right through the damn middle of the efficiency island. I do worry about expansion with a mani that links both banks of cylinders. |

Edit: DO NOT turbo it. I'm a member at http://www.oldskoolsuzuki.info/ and the few people that have turbo'd the bikes generally have it down for easily more than 6 months, and you need the entire frame and engine to mock up, there's lots that get in the way. Plus EVERYTHING is custom, manifold, plenum, wiring harness, intercooler, pipes, etc, etc. You also need to be an incredible fabricator, since this stuff isn't hidden under a hood. All for a bunch of power that is only usable by V. Rossi. |
Here's a good thread, dunno if you have to be a member to view it though.
http://forum.oldskoolsuzuki.info/cgi...8655;start=all Lol @ this: is the 19T not too big ?!! moves a LOT of air ! (wondered how long it would be before someone bolted one up :D fancy trying one meself) Oh wait, was I supposed to be convincing you to not turbo it? Oops. |

You guys need a good vacation or cruise to the caribean. Just you and your wife, it's a nice way to clear your mind and start from scratch.

June 5th our flight leaves for Cancun. Really nice time share of my brother-in-law's...I just had to pay our food and airfare (which I handed him the last check for the other day). If I actually pull of this 4.0 I'm shooting for this semester I will REALLY enjoy the R&R. We've also been doing a lot more as a family recently. No garage time = being able to take our daughter to the Houston Children's Festival weekend before last, and to see the Dragon movie this last weekend (she laughed so much and so hard I thought they'd kick us out).

I just like to tinker so much, and have been talking myself out of projects a lot the past week. I was *this close* to ordering an MSII kit this morning since my damn turbo kit still hasn't sold. Step away from the soldering iron...slowly. |
I remembered incorrectly, but knew it was a 750 V4, so I looked it up. It was a metallic green one of these:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...nda_VF750F.JPG Honda Interceptor VF750F - and the long and short of the story was something to do with loaning a car to a friend to run an errand because he only had a bike. I was caught by a hardass cop in a podunk town riding it somewhat inappropriately with no motorcycle endorsement and the bike having no insurance and no current registration. Ahh, the good old days. |
Cool old bike. The original V4s started it all, but they later fixed a lot of bugs and made a GREAT bike. I bet that was fun back in the day. Fuck da pohlice.

I would like to know how that sounds.
This one has the shorty can, which sounds pretty awesome, but I might play around with it a little. It's so good that after I dumped my '97 VFR I kept the pipe (pipe was perfect, bike was a cosmetic total) just in case I ever get another VFR. Looooooooooooooooove the 2nd and 3rd gen VFR's! |
Thats exactly like the last bike I owned.I just had to go wack one off after seeing your pictures... WOW. I loved that machine.
How much did you pay, ive been watching those, and they really seem to hold their value over the past 5 years. . I sold it before I made a Move to NC... Best sounding engine EVER.... I had the large stock can, that had been taken apart, and all the baffling removed from the inside, Really let it sing. I had a friend that had that short can, just didnt let it reverb like my bike did. Be sure to check the torque and locktab on the outside hub nut of the sprocket on the rear swingarm. 250 miles out on a weekend trip, i lost my nut and the sprocket, it passed me on a bridge, jumping the curb and landing in a river. Needless to say, i needed a tow home. Sadly there arent many parts left out there for these classics, But ues, i had 46K on my bike and it rode like a dream. Michelin pilot roads are the best tires. If you ever want to sell... PM a brotha.... Oh yea. little hot gun action, and a razor blade you can go right above that purple stripe, and remove the entire purple decals, and leave the rest. Making a rear fender eliminator isnt hard either. Congrats. |

This is what the pipe looks like... I used to have a .wav file of how it sounded, but I can't dig it up.
