Yugo SKS with grenade launcher, bayonet and night sight... |
oh shit that's badass
do some invading? |
Nice!
What rounds did you use in the grenade launcher? |
I spent the weekend at my grandparents house in WV. Grandpa said that he shot an M1 Garand with a granade launcher during WWII. The army procedure was to shoot it with the butt into the ground but he said if you shot it like a normal rifle (and had 6-8 feet of clearance behind you for the "kick") you could aim it better and take out a tank's mobility. He said you shot a blank round to launch the grenade. I have seen some videos with people shooting tennis balls with the thing and I think I will be trying that in the near future. I just need to find a place to do it. They have 88 acres in WV to play around in. I have 3/4 acres here in SC with a cop living behind me. Wonder what the city regs are for shooting grenades in your neighborhood?
Here is my 95 year old grandpa holding a Walther P32 (the size round that killed Hitler): http://www.lightweightmiata.com/misc/grandpa-P32.JPG Here is me burning Grandpa's chair (it was kind of a wild weekend): http://www.lightweightmiata.com/misc/grandpa-chair.JPG |

|
Just some of the fun (a little more than 4000 rounds of ammo here):

"A lot of men died that day." Reminds me of that part in Jarhead. D.I. Fitch: Too f**king bad! He ever talk about it? Anthony 'Swoff' Swofford: Sir, only once, sir! D.I. Fitch: Good! Then he wasn't lying! |

Nice Rob. Has he spent any time in former Yugoslavia?

SKS are fun to shoot, but inaccurate as hell. I have 2. One is new in the box, and has a fiberglass folding pistol grip stock in addition to the wooden one. The shooter has an aftermarket pistol grip. Both have the triangular bayonet, the N-I-B also has the blade type. Both have aftermarket muzzle brakes. I switched out the fixed magazines, and have 2 30-round chinese mags (real junk), and 3 eastern bloc ones which are nice. I also have a 50 round mag, which makes the thing really heavy. Back when I bought mine, I got 3 cases of ammo (1250 rounds each?), and still have about 1 and a half left. Buying that way made it less than 7 cents a round, so shooting is cheap. Really fun gun to mess with, but I'd hate to have to bet my life on it.
Question: what are the two little handguns in the lower right? |
AK mags in an SKS can be a real crapshoot when it comes to proper function, unless you have a model D or M that was specifically made for them. SKSs are plentiful and reasonably cheap so many have been Bubba'ed into not working right, but with the original internal mag they function fine. You won't win any target competitions with one, but they are definitely "combat accurate." They are fun shooters but it sucks that the ammo for them is so expensive now. Just a few years ago it was <$100/case.
My grandpa was also in the Battle of the Bulge. He has a purple heart from injuries sustained when his tank was hit by a panzerfaust. |

Ummmm.... you weren't, by any chance, involved in any piracy on the high seas, were you?

- never used a cell phone - never ate pizza - never ate a hamburger - last movie seen was Funny Farm with Chevy Chase - last car was a Gremlin - didn't cash (submit) for the $600 Bush tax stimulus because "that is welfare" - never sent/seen an email or computer - grandpa had two strokes and never saw a doctor, just laid in bed for 6 months - can't see but won't wear glasses - eats sausage/bacon every meal (won't eat chicken or beef) - live off $18,000 combined social security and have saved up enough money to have a couple hundred thousand in the bank since retirement - has not seen a doctor since retirement (not sure how much longer before that) and has not used a penny of medicare ever (30 years) |
sounds like gramps is a bmf
|
They live like everyone should live. Keep to themselves and don't waste money. Live to be happy and not collect shit they don't need. I respect them probably more than anyone else I know. I only see them twice a year so shame on me...
|
He never ate a hamburger? WTF? I can see not using a cell phone or computer, but never eatin a hamburger? That's just plain un-american! j/k. Your grand father sounds like the kind of dudes I sit and bullshit with at the Auburn VFW. As for the gun thing...I owned an SKS and I liked it as far as blasting rounds off and not caring. I was 16 then. Now I am all about accuracy. I use an AR-15, and I swear by it. People might say an AK is better cause you can throw it in the mud, load a clip in it, and it'll still fire. I never owned an AK, so i can't pass judgement. I guess it's all about what you want. Do you want to hit someone in the head at 300 yards with the 1st shot? Or do you want to empty a clip and scare the shit outta someone?

Until I shot the SKS I used to think that a carbine would be a good home defense weapon. I kept hearing people talk about them with that in mind. Now that I see first hand what it will do I can say that would be a horrible home defense weapon. Unless you were defending the neighbors house across the street and needed to shoot through your walls to get to the bad guy. I think I will stick with my shotgun from now on.

Not that I am paranoid, but I currently have a 12 GA semi-auto shotgun, a 20 GA bolt action shotgun, two .32ACPs, a .22LR pistol, and a .45 within 5 feet of my bed. Only a moron would break into my house!
Oh yeah, and an aluminum baseball bat <G>... Only SKS I've seen in person didn't do it for me. I guess I would have to shoot one to have any basis though. |
