looking up owner from license plate?
A strange pickup has been parked in front of our house for >5 days now. Turns out none of the next door neighbors know the owner. Yesterday a woman with two kids was seen coming from it and getting into a Jetta.
gray 2004 Toyota Tundra double cab LIC# xxxxx VIN xxxxx What kind of lookups can I do - e.g. find owner's name and address? Wife called local PD to check if it was stolen and they said it wasn't on their list. Today she's gonna report it as an abandoned vehicle. |
I am not aware of a way to look them up but people often block their tag #s in photos so I assume it is possible.
Are you sure they aren't just carpooling? |
From what I understand the DMV can usually provide you with the person's name but not their address or phone number unless your state specifically prohibits it. Once you have there name you can generally find them.

why do you care if its parked in front of your house is it blocking your drive way?? Are they committing a crime? seems to me you should just relax and go back to posting something about a miata.
|
loco, are you trying for the record number of negative props?
Jason, I have son-in-laws in law enforcement, so that helps. I'm not too sure about normal citizens. |

Example: about 2 years ago, neighbor couple was on vacation. Truck pulled into their driveway, 2 guys got out. Other neighbor asks what they want, and is told that they are "movers", here to load up the house contents. Couldn't "remember" client's name, and didn't have any paperwork. Other neighbor called cops, stopped house from being robbed, caught 2 robbers who had cleaned out several other places nearby. Strangers parked out in front for several days are probably not the kind of people you want hanging around. If nothing else, they are probably violating ordinances by living out of a parked car. |
The cops probably wont do anything but come by and tell you they cant do anything. The next step is to remove the plates and then report it as an unregistered vehicle parked on the street. Then the owners will get a notice based on the vin its registered to that they have 72 hours to remove it from the street or it will be towed.

Except now Jason is the one who has actually committed a crime.

Why not put a note on the window asking them to please move it elsewhere because it makes you uneasy. The truth. It is the best way to deal with people.
|
I didn't realize you owned the public streets, Jason.

Yes, you can look up a person from just their license plate. I had a friend who had a paid subscription to PublicData.com [ Home Page ] and was able to do just that.
Sorry I can't actually help on it, but just wanted to let you know IT IS possible, you just need to get in contact with someone with access. If no one on this forum has access, try another big forum, more than likely someone has a subscription. |
I've used accident reports to find info related to vehicles as some states have that info available w/o charge. Some charge or use a contractor that charges.

So a strange truck which the neighbors don't recognize parks in front of your house for a week, and you do nothing?
|
happens on my street all the time; my neighbors are indian.
What I want to find out is which one of my neighbors called police to issue my miata two tickets because I 1. forgot to put my new decals on my plates and 2. let my safety inspection laspe a month because the car was not running and I was in the process of selling it so i was unable to get it done and then didn't need to, which lead to $127 in fines/fees after wasting 3 personal/vacation hours in court and being told by a judge that my county doesn't want "junk cars" parked in our nice neighborhoods. |
