Default A complicated situation....

So pretend you work at SubWay. A customer walks in and orders a 12" sub. You make the requested sub and before you ring them up, they hand you a "buy one 6" sub, get another 6" sub free" coupon. What do you do?

Ring it up as a 6". Duh.

Would it have made a difference if he would have asked for two 6" of the same sandwich?

Yeah, it's not that difficult, ring it up as a 6" and a 6" for free.

Let me guess, you ran into a stupid employee at a Subway?

Where I used to work across the street from the courthouse in Arlington they barely even spoke English in the Subway. I stopped going there because even though I made the same identical order every time, it always cost a different amount. Guy was some shady Indian. So I started going to the deli a block down the street on the other side of the courthouse.

I have a friend who incurrs a daily melt-down at subway where she orders a veggie sub (won't eat fake meat, lol) and they charge her more for the veggie sub than the $2.50 daily special.

dreamgirl: I want the $2.50 turkey sub, hold the turkey
idiot: I can't do that
dreamgirl:Can you do the turkey on the side, and just not give it to me?
idiot: I NEED A SIDE OF TURKEY!!!
dreamgirl:No, I don't actually want the turkey.
idiot: Well you have to take the turkey or its $5.
dreamgirl:Ok, give me the ******* turkey on the side. (and I'll give to a stray)

Hmm I never thought to do what she does. Yes,I have noticed that the veggie sub costs as much as all the meat subs which can include all the veggies as well.

Doppelganger, WTF? I would ring it as a 6" . What's the right answer?

Yeah, well there is a bit more to the situation, but the real problem came from the 12" sub + coupon.

Me and my GF went to SubWay.
It started as an order of a 6" Sweet Onion Chicken Teryiaki (SOCT for future referece) and a 12" Chicken Breast (CB). Once both sandwiches were made to our liking and before the girl started punching buttons on the register, I presented two coupons. Now, before I go any further, I have done this countless times...using different coupons at the same time and ordering a 12" sub when using a buy-on-get-one coupon. So I explain politely that I have a coupon for "free 6" sub w/purchase of chips and drink" and that the 6" SOCT was the sandwich for that coupon and that the 12" CB was for the other coupon. That's where there was some rip in the space-time continuum. She states that I cannot use both. OK, that is fine. So in this case, my GF buys her chips and drink and gets her SOCT for free. No biggie....except it too kthe girl about 5 minutes to fiure out how to ring it up. I don't know why as the coupon is a SubWay-issued coupon and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has ever used one. Anyway, get that squared away...in about as much time as it would have taken me to eat my sandwich.

Now to ring my sub up. Before she gets back to punching away at the register, I hand her my coupon for buy-one-get-one-free. Now there is a second hole in the space-time continuum. She looks at me and says "This is a 12" sub, the coupon is for two 6" subs". Oh geeze. I stand there kinda puzzled, but calm...and as polite as I have been this whole time. I then said "well, unwrap the sandwich and wrap each half up seperately and you'll have two identical 6" subs". No answer...but she goes and calls the manager...literally calls as he is not at the store. By this time, I've been trying to resolve paying for this food for at least 8 minutes. (next time you go order food somewhere, time out 8 minutes..it's a long time at a "fast food" place). So she comes back and says "I can do it this time, but we normally don't do this". DO WHAT?!!?! USE COUPONS?!?!?! (this is what I was thinking, but not saying...but I'm sure becaus eyou saw that it wasn't in quotations..you already knew this). So I ask her "Well, how do you want me to use this coupon?"... no reply. So now she is back to ringing up food on the register...ring up...delete...ring up...delete. She can't figure out how to enter the coupon..but keeps ringing up a 12" sub and cancelling it. So when she finally does, my total is $4.55. I pay and look at my receipt. She charged me $4.25 for a(nother) 6" SOCT. I politely correct her that the 6" sub I should have been charged for costs $3.75 to which she replies "you got a SOCT"..."umm no, I ordered a CB, but whatever I don't care, leave me alone". I was rightfully frustrated by the end of this and may have been a bit short..but still calm.

I don't care that I was overcharged, I didn't want my money back, I jsut wanted to eay my, now cold, 12" CB sub.

Cliffs-

-order food
-tried using two coupons
-was told I couldn't use two coupons so my GF bought one meal and I bought the other
-girl can't figure out how to enter coupon into order, takes forever to do so
-goes to ring up 12" sub and is presented with coupon for buy-one-get-one 6"free"
-refuses coupon because I ordered 12" sub
-politely explain that there are two identical 6" subs in one wrapper and if need be, she can take the sandwich apart and wrap them seperately.
-girl calls manager..on the phone
-girl finally accepts coupon but takes several minuts to figure out how to apply the coupon
-girl charges me for wrong sandwich
-I don't care about overcharge, I just want to eat.

I mean, when she asked what I wanted I could have said "I want two 6" chicken breast subs on honey wheat". But to me, that's over complicating because all she is going to do is take out a 12" piece of bread and cut it in half. Guess what? If I just order a 12" sub, they're still going to cut it in half...just after they; done putting the toppings on. I've learned that when dealing with any customer service-type people, the fewer words you use, the better off you'll be....and applied such logic to my food order. It's not like I was ordering two different 6" subs...If I had indeed done so, I would have placed my order as "one xxx6" sub and one xxx6" sub"....but I didn't, I wanted two of the same 6" sub...which equals 12" worth of sub....so who not just order a 12" sub rather than saying "Yes, I'll have two 6" CB subs" and sound like a retard when they ask what I want on them and repeat myself.."on that one I'll have lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayo and sweet onion sauce, and on the other one I'll have lettuce, tomato, pickle, mayb and sweet onion sauce".

What can ya do. I was frustrated at first, but now it's just funny.

Other examples of my logic.

Walk into candy store. See sign that says "buy 1lb of candy, get another lb free". Now what does it matter if I put 2lb of candy in one bag or two 1lb bags of candy?

Walk into fruit stand and see bananas are buy one get one free. I see two perfect bananas that happened to be paried together. Do I pull them apart and bag them seperately?

I think when people do dumb ******* **** jobs like that their brains retard to *** **** dumb mode. A lot of those fast food workers face much more pressure and bullshit than a lot of folks here and can come close to or get fired for lameness like that. Those subways are also franchises and their owners probably make like $50K a year per store which is why they are always trying to sneak in extra charges etc. Blah

That's awesome. Not to take anything away from Subway employees, many are cool and very friendly, but sometimes in minimum wage food service jobs you find folks with...challenges...opportunities.

Here's a Subway "trap" I ran into the other day. $5 Footlong, big sign that says add chips and a drink for $2. So...$7, right? Wrong...dude said that you can't get the "$2 chips and drink" with the $5 footlong, and it ends up being like $1 more. So DUDE...WHERE'S the VALUE in getting a $5 footlong if you have to pay more for the chips and drink??? I felt like I was trading in a used car at a sleazy car lot or something.

I'm not saying that all FF workers are dumb or anything, but if you're going to be doing a job that YOU choose, at least give a damn. I mean, anyone with some sense will either a) not give a **** about people using multiple coupons for small purchases...not like I was trying to get 20 6" subs and 20 free 6" subs or b) see where a customer is making things simple and just get it. I can't tell you guys how many times I've ordered a 12" sub and handed over a but-one-get-one coupon and the person ringing me up "gets it" and knows what to do. To me, doing that and understand it are common sense.

your expectations are WAY too high.

anybody with an IQ over the average 100 should be able to figure out any fast food restaurants techniques their first time in and order according to the most efficient means possible to reduce the thinking required by the staff to the near zero they are trained to do.

if you complicate things for them, they will unwittingly make your life hell.

I swear that once I figured this out I had to go to the chiropractor (and shooting range) half as often.

Thus comes the question "how does one get into the mind of the dumber person and figure out what is too complicated to them?". Maybe I'm just baffled at this being the first time I've ever had a problem ordering from SubWay in the 10 years I've been using coupons and ordering my own food from there

I've always thought the fewer words spoken, the better...you know... like cave man talk.... "Me sub, want chicken, want drink" *points at picture menu*.

If people didn't prove themselvs as generally ******* retarded, we would have more places where one could walk up and punch in their own order on an easy-to-read screen. But no, we can't have stuff like that because you get Ms. Giantassed Ignoranus on the phone who sits dumbfounded at the screen thinking about which bread will be the least fatening. Though these people are OK at verbally ordering, you cannot allow them to do it on their own...it's just too much. On a side note, Which Wich has a nifty way to order sandwiches. They give you a paper bag and you go donw the list of what you want. When you're done, you hand it over the counter and all they do is read the bag and make the sandwich. It's brillant. Now we just need automated machines to make the sandiches to rule out all human error and possible reading comprehension skills to deliever the perfect fast food sandwich.

You should've ordered 2 3" subs and a 15.24 centimeter sub for your Canadian friend.

Also, please Google "6 inches in cm" like I just did and check out the first result.
