Just got out of the theater. Still trying to figure out exactly how I feel. Really loved it for the most part but it has some problems. That's probably just me way over analyzing it though. All the hype leading up didn't help things.

Yeah after thinking about it over today it has some issues, but overall I still very much enjoyed it. I will be going to see it again next week in 2d, and I will probably go watch it third time also.

Wow.

Just left the theater.

I mean, I'd assumed they'd probably do something like that, but to see it happen...

Wow.

Been this afternoon. Almost missed out due to me buying 11 tickets for a party of 13 whoops! Cinema took much pity on me.

Thank you Mr Abrams for having half a clue, you done good.

I was a bit disappointed to be honest. I thought they called it in on the main story lines and it came across as derivative. Return of the Return of the Jedi anyone?

I think it does lay a good foundation for further development in future films though.

I think this was the primary purpose... and to 'cleanse the palate' after I-III...

Remember that Abrams is a huge Lucas fan, so this move is very much an homage to the original. I think the subsequent movies will depart further... at least I hope they will!

That's a great point. There were tons of little references that fans would pick up on. I

Yeah, there were a few bits that were pandering to the old timers. "See, we remember how it used to be!" That's just signature JJ Abrams.

I was just glad that:

It didn't feel rushed, like they were trying to cram too much into two hours, and

The villain wasn't a throwaway.

Discussing it more today, we came to that same conclusion. Its a pretty hard spot to start from though, it would be highly risky starting out to get too carried away and have everyone not like it... again. Proving that they can make a Star Wars film Star Wars-y means now they can get a little further into something new. Although the second Star Trek Into Darkness was a bit woeful so y'know, it could still go bad.

There's definitely some lame aspects to the story too (edit: and really, what doesn't mostly suck with the writing these days) but I won't get into that yet.

Star Wars came out when I was 10. Blown away. Then Empire came out when I was 13. Star Wars kept getting better. But everything since has been downhill, until this movie.

What I wanted from this movie was to leave the theater feeling like I had seen a real Star Wars movie again. One that kicked *** with 10yo me and current me. This movie succeeded in doing that. My kids (currently 10 and 11) got to see a new Star Wars that was worthy of being seen.

I'm the same age, and this is how I feel about it as well. It's going to be difficult to duplicate the kind of impact SW had in 1977... And the SW universe is so well known that almost anything they do is going to somehow feel derivative if they stick to the existing canon. What was important to me is it was well crafted, well acted, reasonably well written and it felt like SW.

And it wasn't chock full of CGI bullshit!
