Default Price check on insides of open diff without R&P

Any thoughts? Basically the complete core of the insides of an open diff, minus the ring and pinion.

Less than 100 i would think. Ive seen an assembled open unit go for 100 dollars on the classifieds.

1.8l or 1.6l? Is this for a temporary fix or something more permanent? I have a 1.8l open diff I'm not using but it's got a few miles on it by the looks of it. It's missing the outer bearing races though.

1.8 diff, my bad.

I'm going with an OBX LSD and it doesn't come with a carrier or R&P so I would be reusing those.

Dirt cheap I'd say.

Prices for clean scrap iron seem to be in the neighborhood of $100 per ton. I've no idea how much the iron part of the housing weighs (maybe 30 lbs?) so I'd figure it's worth around a buck fifty.

If the aluminum carrier is intact, that'll fetch maybe $50-$100 on ebay.

Then again, you never know. This Fellow is asking $650 for a 1.6-size open diff without the carrier.

So really I wouldn't loose much money if I just welded it until I got an LSD?

I'd rather have a welded than an open.

no, they are dirt cheap...weld it up. I asked around on forums and was told anywhere from $50-100...then I had a local guy send me one for free. I paid for shipping.

Welded wont turn

Just sayin - you'll be drifting around corners to turn where once you were wheelspinning around them

It'll turn, but it will take a lot of wear and tear on the inside tire. CV joints, splines, etc. We run welded Toyota gears in our Legends and Thunder Roadsters and have never had one break. But for some reason we strip out spools. But on the street in would be a lot of stress with all of the sharp turns.
