Mazdaspeed3 or G35?

I really like them both for different reasons but I need to decide so I can start "putting my affairs in order" and get off my ass and do it before my wife buys something.

Any major reliability issues you guys are aware of? I thing clutches only last about 50K on the g35, but other than that, everything I have read says they are both generally reliable.

They are also 2 completely different cars. Different classes, deffinately different money and so. What are you looking to do with it? Lookin at your sig it looks like you already have a few sports cars so I say go for the luxury.

Completely different cars.

I'd take the MS3 over the G35...its a pig, no room. The MS3 has 4 doors, a hatch, decent amount of room and is a fun car to drive. If I ever start making money after I walk, that will be the car I pick up.

Speed 3, new > used.

m2cupcar 02-05-2009 12:16 PM

G35 = 4dr rwd ftw

hustler 02-05-2009 12:28 PM

g35...daily drivers should be sofas on wheels.

rotaryjunky 02-05-2009 01:25 PM

A 4dr G35 5spd would be perfect, especially the X, but I think the awd is only auto and the 5spd in the sedan is hard to find used.

It would be year round dd, with snow tires, and occasionally out to the eighth mile dragstrip with the kids for leisurely launches. Anyone heard of any major problem areas with these cars? The less I spend on these, the more for the miata and nsx. And as a teacher with 13 years on the job still only making 30's, I am very careful about saving.

I'm thinking $18K for a used mazdaspeed3 or about $21K for a used G35 with lowish miles.

mrtonyg 02-05-2009 03:01 PM

those two vehicles should not be in the same sentence...no disrespect to the MazdaSpeed3.

I'm wishing I would have gotten a G35 instead of this god-awful '07 CR-V I'm riding around in right now. The CR-V is a bitch on the highway. Nowhere near enough horsepower for confident overtaking, and the ride is stiff as a brick. Hard seats too. And as much as I drive these days, and given the fact that my needs for a cargo hauler just shrank, the CR-V isn't working out now.

I test drove the MS3 when it came out, and although it IS fun as heck, it also suffers from a fairly stiff ride much as my Honda does. The G35 sedan positively GLIDES over imperfections in the road though. I guess it just depends on what you want. The G35 coupe is a blast, but kinda impractical, the MS3 is practical but a bit unrefined in the comfort department, and the G35 sedan is practical, quick, and comfortable.

You can 100% without a doubt find a low mileage G35 for under $21k. I've been looking at them too, also for a new daily. Fucking things are cheap now.

I agree the MS3 is in a different class, not the ones I like personally. Plus look at the interior of the 3, then the G35.

Also a different class, but I've been looking at chargers and challengers as well. I'll probably just end up dumping more into the miata.... :hs:

A MS3 is a nice car, but I'd definitely was the G35.

m2cupcar 02-05-2009 05:43 PM

My buddy just bought an e36 m3 4dr 75k on the engine for $6k. And another showed up on CL a month later for $5k obo with 175k on it.

kotomile 02-05-2009 06:53 PM

You already have sportscars.. so as much as I dig the MS3 I can't recommend it here. I say skip the G35 and go with a LS430, and go VIP.

Braineack 02-05-2009 07:01 PM

I'd get the g35 over a ms3 just based on the fact that one is rwd and the other front.....FAIL WHEEL DRIVE is FAIL WHEEL DRIVE
