metal epoxy that is good
 

I want to mount my IAT bung to the pipe that is exiting the intercooler. Is there a good metal epoxy that will accomplish this task without a risk of leak or breakage down the road. I can go to an exhaust shop and have it welded, but it is easier and cheaper to do it myself if this method will work.

Id get a bung welded on there and know 100% that it will never EVER break or leak. Just my .02

About to do the same thing. Local muffler shop will weld just about anything round and under 5" (that's what she said) for $10. That's about what my time spent going to O'Reilly and purchasing JBWeld costs me. Now I just have to find that damn IAT bung again and pull the charge pipe off.

I JB welded mine.. it worked fine till the motor blew up, then I had it welded on :laugh:

i took mine to a marine shop and they welded mine for free, but i felt guilty and gave the guy $20

Did your motor blow up because your sensor fell out?

Take it to a shop. A lot of good shops out there that will probably feel guilty charging you for a job so small. At least any that are run by decent people. I had to force the machine shop that welded on my oil return bung to accept my payment. It would probably take them all of a minute and maybe a dollar worth of material. At worst you are looking at a few minute wait and an Andrew Jackson.

+1 esp if you prep it all nice and clean that kind of shit is pretty easy and fast to knock out.

I've had my JB welded for almost 4 years now.

Did you JBweld the bung on there...or thread in the sensor and seal it with the magic metal epoxy?

I still use it for a post-IC/pre-TB boost source.

My JimB pipes were entirely JB welded and held together a fuck of a long time. Ugly as shit and ghetto, but got the jobs done. Now I roll with silly-cone!

Cool...mine's in the BEGi throttle body elbow right now (sans bung)...but I want to move it where yours is...and put a WI nozzle at the current location.

I just thought if you're going to JBweld a tapped hole with weld around it would be stronger than trying to hold the bung to the side of the pipe.

If yours has held for 4 yrs though I'm not worrying about it. This is the only thing holding me back from installing the Devil's Own kit. I was waiting for a slow Sunday at work to weld it on.

I mean it's ghetto and if I wasn't so lazy I'd get it welded...

I vote for welded... For the cost and the effort a shop would do it for, it's not worth risking a JB failure. Just my $0.02.

I think JB weld will be just fine here. I mean, real weld is better and all but shit, the AIT sensor is what, a whole three oz? I don't think there's going to be much stress at all on the bung so jb weld away.

"Real weld" can fail too. So blah.

It's probably more important to do your sensor wiring properly and make it somewhat element resistant. Heat shrinkwrap your connectors n stuff.


BTW I "fixed" a quarter inch hole in my power steering pump with jb weld. The hole got there from SS line abrasion. It is lame and cheesy but JB is doin fine and I am replacing the pump when the engine is out. I would like a real welder but I will save that purchase for my next "daily driver".
