Default Miata vs. Peterbilt -- Peterbilt Wins!!

Sitting at a light, boxed in on all three sides. An oilfield services truck pulls up behind me and stops. It then inches forward and drives right into me. Driver said he couldn't see me over his hood and he wanted more clearance on some RR tracks.

Guess I was lucky. Imagine if he had been going 5mph or so.

Grrrrr . . . .

This is NOT what you want to see 5 feet behind your cranium:

To make matters worse (note Miata tail light remnants):

Pitiful, starting to look like Hustler's daily:

And, I was pushed into the SUV in front as well:

Wow, good think you aren't dead. Even better news is that you might be able to get a claim payment for this rather than the insurance company attempting to "total" the car.

This is the kind of stuff I pray to Cthulu happens to my daily. I really, really wish someone would body slam it in traffic.

The damage doesn't look as bad from out here.

I will say this: it annoys the hell out of me when someone posts a picture of a Miata in a context that a photochop is called for, and yet it's a silver car against a grey background. This prevents the use of the Magic Wand tool and makes it take longer.

In the future, please get hit by trucks only while driving blue or red cars- they're much easier to photo-manipulate.

Going to the body shop next week. Red or blue Joe?

Believe it or not, I think I'm darn close to being totalled. Doesn't take much on these cars.

Not totaled, surely. Bend back out that bottom edge of the rear quarter panel, get a new rear header panel, or whatever it's called between the lights, and a tail light and repair the bumper. Not cheap for sure, but not that major either, I wouldn't think.

three inches to the right and it would practically buff out.

It doesn't take long to get to $3k-deductible in body shop time, especially the way they bill it.

Yeah, already got one estimate for $2800, and that didn't include refinishing the front bumper cover.

Three inches to the right for sure. That Peterbilt gently tagged just about every panel I had back there.

Still kind of scary he didn't even know I was there.

Hustler, if you want your daily tagged, intersection of US377 and TX151 in Cresson is the ticket. Next time you come down to MSR-C, just hang out a bit. Your choice . . . trucks or trains.

Its too bad that I only drive Green Glory out there, I'll take either option as long as I keep the Torsen pumpkin and shocks. State Farm was pretty cool to me about finding cheaper replacement parts than the estimate. I suggest you find a tail light and a finish panel on your own to hopefully significantly reduce the cost while still getting reimbursed at what I'd call the "fair market rate".

I guess so. I've never had to deal with an insurance claim. I don't guess they let you do any of the work yourself to save on the $? I would do everything else myself, and just let them massage the quarter panel tab back into shape and paint. But I guess maybe it doesn't work that way.

I finally got a good adjuster who was into cars and understood my claim, then basically let me name my price that was below the replacement value. I went with the honest price of the hard-top and he added pain labor cost. The insurance company ended up paying $1200 rather than $3k for the replacement value.

I honestly don't think they'll total it. All of the gaps still seem to align properly, and that's the big litmus test.

True, you can't pick a worse body panel to crunch on a Miata than the rear fender, but I'm guessing they'll just cut it a few inches in from the damage, weld in a replacement piece, replace the rear bumper cover and rear center trim, and just refinish the front cover. It'll be pricey, but not replacement cost pricey.

Either one is fine with me. I've owned three red convertibles and two blue ones, and none of any other color.

When I had to make a claim when I got side swiped in my last car they had me bring it to a body shop they recommended to get a quote on replacement value. Then I told them to send me that amount in a check an I would get it done myself. They should not care who does the work just that the price is not inflated. It is actually a good way to replace parts with aftermarket instead of stock since it is usually cheaper to by after market parts then stock.

I guess he didn't see you the whole time he was pulling up, before you disappeared under his hood? Nice.

Came in for the carnage and all I got was a busted tail light.

Perfect time to get a Wisdom body kit and some euro tails. Great thinking! Put the rest towards a VTEC controller.

I really can't explain it. This thread is anger management therapy.

Anyhoo, may take the opportunity to replace the steel hood that found its way onto the car sometime during its life. That would be a positive.
